Can someone please tell me how to use a '96 Avant VHS with Beo4?

    Hi:

I know that if  iI upgraded my membership I could look at the manuals et. However, at the mo I am a bit strapped for cash. Thus could someone please tell me how to play a tape in the Avant video player?

So far I have inserted a tape and pressed "go" and all the buttons around the diamond. These make it reverse/advance etc but so far I cannot get it to play. Could someone please give me step by step instructions?

    Thanks

    Graham

Which Beo4? Normally you would just press V.Tape but if it does not have that, press V.Mem.

    Hi Peter:

When I press v tape, the screen goes grey (like the wallpaper to the menu screen). Not much else happens..

Could it be that it is broken?

Is the V.Tape plugged in to the SCART at the back?

    Hi Peter:

Sorry which of the scarts would be assigned to the V.Tape? You might be onto something here as I came home the other night and one of my housemates was playing Wii on the TV and so might have pulled the wrong scart out.

    Thanks

Also, I have never used a B&O video before. I've fixed one but never used it so really elementary instructions would be great.

You know the user manual is on the official site? Not much use, but it should be there.

How many SCART sockets have you? If 3, the VCR captive lead should be in the one on the right , looking at the back of the set.

    Hi Peter:

Right, done that now there is sound but no picture. It does not sound like the picture is going to be bad or at fault as the sound is very crisp. Is this a programing issue now?

    Thanks

    Graham

PS I didn't know but now I do I guess!

Oh, if it helps, it says "v.tape 1" on the display.

Graham, mine just says V Tape, without the 1. If you are getting sound, you must be on the right source, have you shoved the scart lead in firmly, both on the VCR end and the TV end?

    Poor me, never win owt!

    Hi:

Its an Avant so the source end is in the case right?

I will give it a go now

Success - why didn't I think of that before?

Also, why oh why is there some kind of clip that overhangs the Avant socket so that it is a nightmare to get the scart in - GOD!

As much as I love B&O I have never understood the need for programing of scarts, pulling things out and connecting them in the adjacent socket. I know there is probably a reason but hardly intuitive is it!

Thanks everyone for your help. I can now watch X-Files on a proper TV!

    Yes - thumbs up

I think the clip thing is so it won't come out easily. Handy in a TV that moves back and fore every time you switch it on/off.

The SCART for the VHS is not really supposed to be removed - hence, as Andy says, the clip! It has to be removable however so that the VCR can be serviced.

Thanks, that would make sense. Should stop deriding B&Os efforts - they obviously thought about the reasons for doing it and wasn't over engineering!

Re: Can someone please tell me how to use a '96 Avant VHS with Beo4?

You know, B&O often do 'things' that we don't realise until later. Being a Beoworlder brings these hidden things out.
For exanple, I thought it was a fault that, when doing a hard switch off in a link room (long press of standby button), my Avant wouldn't park up for the night in the main room.
Only by being a Beoworld member did I find out that it is actually a safety device, your baby might have it's head trapped in the Avant while you're in the kitchen!

    Poor me, never win owt!

I wondered that too about the Avant parking and thought it was a fault - makes perfect sense to me now.

I wonder how many other things there are. It's always a nuisance when you want to add something to a Beo4 even temporarily and everything switches off.

You just need to cover the sender ... e.g. using a pillow and "pushing" the beo 4 into it.
