    HDR1 + Upgrade Kit = HDR2?

    Hello,

If the 250GB upgrade kit is fitted to the HDR1 is the software (menu's, etc) also upgraded? So basically the only difference between an upgraded HDR1 and a DR2 will be the external look? Anybody know the cost of the upgrade?

    The menu's stay the same.
The update is 155 Euro excl. laybour (in Holland)

I have the HDR1 and was considdering an upgrade.
I think it is in our case not necessary.
We record 2 programs every day and occasionally a movie.
We filled the 17 hours only once in the past 3 months.

The differences in usage are small.

The HDR2 has a different startup screen, slightly different use of control.

The software has been updated and can be updated without changing hardware. Only a serial cable is enough.

You can add a recording up to 8 different groups.

The HDR1 couldn't handle the record record function when it was used with a MX(8000). The HDR1 locks up and the only way  was to take off the power. The HDR2 will work with the MX.

The 250 GB harddrive will be able to record  60 hours instead of 17 hours.

Technically are both devices identical. All the boards are the same.

So, in mine opinon, if the looks doesn't interests you, buy the upgrade and you'll have (almost) the same.

Yes, my dealer talked me about a problem with the HDR1 timer (or the clock...) definitely solved in the new software.
