I have a pair of Penta 1's hooked up to a Beomaster 4500.  Connections are powerlink II with B&O adapters to hook up to the Penta's.  A display on one of the Penta's does not light.  Does anybody out there have ideas on troubleshooting, possible solutions, etc.  Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello, and welcom to Beoworld. Have you tried swapping the connections and speaker leads over? This way you will know for sure if it is the speaker itself, the leads or a problem with the Beomaster.

Thanks for your response Craig, but that was my first thought as well.  My other Penta works fine on both channels and with both cables and adapters. 

 It's definitly something within the Penta.

Try removing the two plastic display lenses, carefully, because the clips can be fragile. You should then be able to pull out both display units a few inches. Disconnect the cables, swap the two displays, and see what happens...

Hey PL212 - thanks for the tip.  I swapped out the displays as you suggested and discovered that I have two speakers with one good display.  Do you (or anyone else) have any troubleshooting tips for a bad display?  Again, thanks for all your help.  This forum is awesome!

It could be a broken solder connection (dry joint) somewhere in the display assembly -- you can try inspecting the unit, which has two separable circuit boards. There are I believe two capacitors, either of which could be replaced:

Since there are two boards, you could always try swapping 1/2 of one display with the other, to narrow down which part is failing...

You see the green stuff on the power regulator? That's electrolyte from a cap, probably both caps are dead and need replacement.

Usually there is also a blown 4,7 or 47 Ohm resistor, usually killed by the short circuit of dead cap...

I agree with Die_Bogener that the caps would be the first thing to check and then look for what other damage they may have caused.

The photo, I believe, is of PL212's Penta rather than Puck's but it could very well be the same issue.

Yes, the displays pictured above are mine -- they were actually completely functional but I replaced the capacitors anyway as a preventative measure...

I have two working Penta 1 display units on the shelf. 

Thanks you guys.  I've narrowed it down to the display board with the large cap.  It looks like some black/green goo oozed out of the bottom of the cap.  It seems I need a cap job (and possibly some resistors) or maybe I'll take the easy way out and relieve Ridax of one of his.  Again, thank you all for your help.
