    Beo5 software somewhere?

    Hello!

I think the Beo5 remote is a really cool product but not much fun if you cannot edit it yourself. On top of that, the dealer asks for money to program it which I think is a shame for such an expensive remote control. He says it's too difficult but - as a software engineer - I would say I'd rather see for myself Smile

So before buying it, I was wondering if someone could e-mail me the latest software (I see from other posts that the links are removed?)? My mail address: alexander_min@hotmail.com.

    Much appreciated!

    Best regards,

    Alexander

Hi, You are absolutely right that the remote is not worth much if you do not have the software with it.

The software is far too big to be emailed and a Beoworld does not want to be seen as a place were the software is exchanged.

The best is to get it from your dealer. Just say that if they want your £400, they need to give you the software.

Beware that you will not get the new versions of the software when they come out.

    Hello Alexander,

It's a real shame, but this software is intended to dealer and only available through B&O's intranet. Furthermore, firmware updates which come with updates are also done through this intranet.

All you can do is to tell your dealer that software (and it's updates) availability as a sine-qua-non condition to your purchase of a Beo5. Some accept, some don't. It's up to them to make turnover or not.

It's to expect that if dealers report a lot of lost sales because the software is not available, B&O will finally understand that end-users, who can easlily turn to a Pronto or a Logitech product that they can easily setup, will make the software available.

Have a nice sunday... and happy negociation,

    Yann.

To be very honest it is not of much worth in any case. In my opinion there are too many things missing. And as always, being a major fun of, the two way communication.

Can you imagine if the details of the mp3 you are listening could apear on the screen of the Beo5? And much more.

    Best regards

Thanks for the tip, I'll try to negotiate with the dealer. I am amazed to see how difficult it is to get this software. Can imagine it's too big to be e-mailed, but surely it's posted somewhere and someone has a link? I usually never have problems to find software when I need it. B&O is really thorough when it comes to ensuring that a great gadget becomes a commercial failure Angry...

    Re: Beo5 software somewhere?

Did anyone have any luck obtain the software?

My dealer has refused, all new people [:'(]

I have designed, cabled, installed a all equipment for a 7 room AV ML system and I work in IT, and understand you might render the Beo5 inoperable if you muck up the config but I would really like to have the software to continue to change its setup without have to drive to the shop and pay for each minor change….

    BV10, AvantDVD, BS3000, BL8000, BL6000, BL4000, BL3500, BeoPorts, BC9300, BC7002, CX100s, C75s, Beo4s, BC6000s, LC2s, A9, A8s,

There is actually another problem! B&O have released a firmware update for the Beo5 but this can only be downloaded by being attached to the dealer intranet. So even if you have the latest software, you will also need the dealer log in to get the firmware. Dealers can be persuaded to give up the software - not traceable and saves them a job - but releasing their log in to a secure site would clearly be a flagrant and obvious breech of their contract.

I can only hope that the new management see fit to release a vesion of the software to their customers.

    Re: Beo5 software somewhere?

Guess What! my dealer has also refused to help (Newbury & Reading Branches).

To quote them - your configuration is very complex therefore you must pay us lots of money for us to figure out how to programme that for you) - Mind numbing they are not really capable of programming but want me to pay for them to learn??

My system is not complex Beosystem 9000 , BeoVision AVANT with FreeView , BeoPort  plus some LC2 lights. I would have thought out the box?

(All I wanted was the same function I had with my Beo4 remote before the dog chewed it)

I'm also in IT/Software and know that it would be a simple job to figure out how to programme myself.

If anyone has a link to the software, please email me at aabbs@teec.org (it would be most appriciated)

For me the obvious thing has happened - dealers have figured out they can rip people off because B&O is letting them. Rather than being customer focused B&O seem to becoming dealer focused (they seem to be forgetting who pays the bills)

I was about to upgrade the TV, but I'm hacked off to the point of dumping the complete kit, I certainly wont be using Newbury Reading Branche's anymore - Anyone suggest a good friendly dealer near Berkshire Big Smile

It is not the dealer's fault, they have had clear intructions from head office.

    Re: Beo5 software somewhere?

Sorry was editing my inital post when you replied - The thing that gets me most is that they want me to pay for them to learn when they are meant to be the experts on. What they charge for this is under their control and is where the problem lies. However having the software myself removes the bug bear of having to travel to them each time I want to alter something

They know what we think and want... a Beo5 thread from Beoworld was shown in a official B&O meeting we were told.

Ridiculous. There is a fair chance it won't work as you could well have the wrong firmware anyway.

    Re: Beo5 software somewhere?

I agree but this is where B&O are doing people such a dis-service

They cannot (aka see ebay adverts for beo5) and should not try and manipulate the market by restricting the programming of a product in this way.

    Re: Beo5 software somewhere?

    Just for information,

As you will have seen from previous posts I've been struggling to get the software. As a last ditch attempt I ended up paying for a copy of 1.3 on ebay (nervous as I was about this, £50 for those who are wondering). Anyway it arrived yesterday, and all is now well and i can finally enjoy my Beo5. (ps did not have to upgrade firmware as far as I could tell?)

Managed to set up 3 zones with different pattens and external bit's in about 2 hours .

    Avant, LC2's, Beolab 1, Beloab 2 beolab 6000, Digifusion 200, BeoSound 9000, BeoLab 4000, BeoPort, Beolab 3500, Apple TV

Now I've seen the software I'm even more staggered that the dealers in Newbury/Reading where making such a fuss about how complex it all is?

As far as I can see it's a simple wizard with the only slightly hard bit being getting the Beo5 work on the usb in the first place (had a code 10 which was cleared by rebooting the Beo5 and PC)

With only a few more minor tweaks this could be released to almost anyone.

I'd like to say a Big thanks to Beoworld for the downloads - makes the rest of the none standard bits a breeze
