    Beosound 3000 reliability

Dear all, I have seen some second hand Beosound 3000s for sale. One from a dealer (mint, serviced, warranty, but expensive) and a couple from private individuals (also in good shape, apparently). Quite tempting, actually.

However, I am hesitating because I am worried about failures: these ones are becoming quite old now (mainly from 2002, that's 6 years long use life) thus failures may be expected anytime soon and spare parts will be neither cheap nor available forever.

Do you have any comment on the long term reliability of the Beosound 3000? Is it a good second hand purchase for the long term? Any specific attention point when selecting one?

    Thanks and regards, Jean-Sebastien

    Re: Beosound 3000 reliability

I guess it's like buying a used car - milage is essential (I know of BeoSound 3000's that's been leased to shops that have used them for 12+ hrs a day, but they appear to be in mint condition - but nothing lasts forever) and the condition of the unit will give you some indication of the state it is in. On the other hand I have seen BeoSound 3000's sold by owners that simply used them as a display item in their home, and they have very few miles on the clock and will last you a decade without any problems.

If possible, you could have it checked out by your local service shop that will be able to give some advice regarding a specific unit.

But in general the BeoSound 3000 is a good unit with a good cd-mech and optimised door-mech.

Thanks, Roger. Is there any way to know the "mileage" of a Beosound 3000 (like counter on the Avant, for example)?

    Cheers, js

Yes, it is possible to activate Test Mode (TM) and do various things with the BeoSound 3000. TM24 will give you a read-out of the following:

    Service running counter.

First the Stand-by time will appear.

Press PLAY to toggle between the different counters.

    - St. by time

    - Radio-mode time

    - CD-mode time

    - AUX-mode time

    - ML active time

    - Theft protection active time

More information can be found in our product info section (service and user manuals) - but you do need a gold membership to access these pages.

    Re: Beosound 3000 reliability

Roger, thanks a lot, this is helpful. I will upgrade to gold if need be.

How should I assess e.g. the CD-mode time? I mean, what would be a reasonable "mileage"? A few hundred hours? A few thousand? As from which CD-mode time would one say a unit has been used too much to be considered as a sensible buy for the long term?

    Cheers, Jean-Sebastien

    Re: Beosound 3000 reliability

Hi, less than 100 days (2400 hrs) would be great - more than that  would make me drop by a dealer for a quick check of the mechanical parts (tear & wear).
