Re: JULY 2008 PRIZE DRAW - coincidence?
mor:You may accuse me of suffering paranoia - but looking at who won in the last year, the results are at least to be called strange - I will certainly not renew my paid subscription ....
Well, firstly I (knowingly) missed tonight's draw, although I did harbour a slight hope that I may have won something on my return - alas not (again) Since the draw started I've tried postive thinking and Karma and various other things to try and win - when the christmas draw was on my birthday (24th Dec) I convinced myself the Lab 8000's were going to be mine - to no avail. Even being the unluckiest person in the world I still can't manage to convince myself that after only a year and a bit of monthly prize draws I feel I have been so unlucky that fate is against me and a win is long overdue. It's a inconceiveably giant leap forward to think that because someone may have won twice over a year or so (or even in the same night) that the draw is somehow rigged, unfair or in any way questionable - frankly I'm gobsmacked that anyone could even suggest such a thing I give my time and my efforts to the site freely, I pay the same gold membership as all others and I would be overjoyed to win a prize in the draw - in fact, for many of the prizes given away, I would re-enter them in future draws as things like BEO4's are of no use to me with my vintage system. Never in my wildest dreams did I pay my membership with the sole intent of winning a prize (and even if I did I would accept the cold hand of probability and luck may mean that it would take a long while before anything came my way). Given the drivel I have written it seems strange now to say I'm speechless over "mor's" comment.

Re: JULY 2008 PRIZE DRAW - coincidence?
I, too, am surprised by suggestions that the draw is "rigged" somehow. If such a thing were proven to be true it would totally destroy the relationship between the 'management team' and the ordinary members like me. Trust would be gone, and the memberships would go the same way - result? Beoworld disappears. I've been a member since the start, and haven't won so much as a mousemat in the monthly draw. Yes I won an AppleTV bracket in a separate mini-competition a couple of weeks ago, but only because apparently I was practically the only one who entered... We all pay our memberships, and we all have a chance. As the membership grows, that chance will decrease, but the prizes are likely to improve (not that they aren't great already!) I certainly think that Beoworld's membership fees are well worth what I get out of the site as a budget conscious but keen collector (20 pieces inside the last 2 months...) in terms of technical advice, the wanted and for sale ads etc. The monthly draw is the icing on the cake as far as I am concerned. I am well aware that most of the members have a lot more money than I do, but I still think it is worth it.
Yes, it is disappointing when you don't win that prize you really wanted, and quite amazing when we get a double winner like tonight. However throwing an allegation of dishonesty into an open forum without anything other than sour grapes behind it is, in my opinion, irresponsible and unfair.
Considering the number of members in the draw, and the number or prizes, it is quite unlikely I'll ever win a pair of tasty speakers or a lovely vintage Beogram, but I'll certainly be renewing my gold membership when it becomes due.

Re: JULY 2008 PRIZE DRAW - coincidence?
Actually you stand a good chance of winning something in absolute terms. As one who has done the draw when Lee is away, I can guarantee it is completely above board - don't you think we would let the regular users win a bit more if it wasn't? it would be far more exciting if those on line were winning and we would probably get a bigger audience! However that would be unfair to those spending their money and supporting the site.

Please elaborate, I love a good conspiracy theory. They're always good for a laugh.

As a matter of probability and random fact, the truly suspect result would have been if there were NO repeat winners at all.

Re: JULY 2008 PRIZE DRAW - coincidence?

That was unexpected! I was just packing for holiday and had forgotten all about this months prize-draw, thank you Christian for informing me. They have indeed been a highly desired item, a real treasure in booth size, design and audio quality, a speaker that will follow me for years to come, I hardly can belive this! Very happy holiday-greetings! Christian

Re: JULY 2008 PRIZE DRAW - coincidence?
Sorry but I am going to have to say something but mor I take it you have never met Lee in person ??? Because if you had you would not even have dreamed of accusing Lee or anyone who run Beoworld of rigging the prize draw. Outragous.
Kind Regards
Toby

Re: JULY 2008 PRIZE DRAW - coincidence?
Well I'd never suspect Lee or Peter of rigging the draw, but I have wondered whether it could ever be possible for a member to somehow accidentally not be included in the draw because of a glitch or typo, just like how some gold members never received renewal reminders.
Congrats to the winners though! Austin

Re: JULY 2008 PRIZE DRAW - coincidence?
Actually the answer is no. The draw is done by taking the number of gold members, each of whom has a number and then using a random number generator to pick from those numbers. The only gold members who cannot win are Lee and myself.

I can quote as fact that all renewal emails are always sent automatically. It's only servers and peoples own spam filters (plus people changing their registered email address and forgetting to tell us) that stop people from recieving them. On many occasions people have checked their spam boxes and found their BeoWorld emails! It's just one of those things i'm afraid - and we can't do anything about it. Lee
