    "Calling Card" by Rory Gallagher

Nice one...... a true genius, much missed in my house.

Did you see him play live ?  I had the priviledge to see the great man play 7 times - whilst not the fastest, loudest or best dressed, in my opinion he was the real deal as far as blues/rock players go  showing Clapton, Page,  SRV etc  how it should be done.

I'm off to play Blueprint now - you've inspired me.

Sadly I didn't discover how good he was until after he died so I never got to see him.

A friend of mine was a hardcore fan from the vary early days and saw him 30-40 times in all and told me how good he was. Nearly eveything he did is on Spotify and there is an excellent 5-CD box set available on Amazon for a pretty nominal sum (About £12 last time I looked).

The most similar talent  still touring is probably Walter Trout who is far better live than on record.

spending the Easter Friday catching up on a week of Beoworld postings ... and listening to collections for a change rather than random play; so a day of:

    • Dory Previn including her 20+ minute PlanetBlue
    • Edith Piaf
    • Johnny Farnham

plus a couple of "newbies" from iTunes browsing

First B&O (1976) was a Beogram 1500 ... latest (2011) change has been to couple the BL11 with the BL6Ks *sounds superb*

Got one of my favourite albums on double vinyl the other day after I won £25 of HMV vouchers. Listening to 'Rolling People' from Urban Hymns by the verve on my Beolab 8000 system.

"American VI: Ain't no Grave" by Johnny Cash...

I started to listen to all the original versions of the songs performed by Cash on the American Recordings albums and got stuck with Bonnie "Prince" Billy who wrote I see a Darkness (from American Recordings III). His version is quite haunting too, something very unique about his voice...

I have one favourite in common as both original version and Cash' cover: Hurt by Nine Inch Nails. Hard to to think of what to play next after either of them.

Listening to 'The Cat Empire - The Cat Empire (self-titled)' album. Great lyrics, some booming trumpet and eclectic style

and 'The Avalanches - Since I left You' which is a modern day masterpiece. It's a massive shame they only produced one album and then went their seperate ways.. Pure genius!!

Both are Australian, but should be widely available and are thoroughly worth investing in Yes - thumbs up

I've seen The Cat Empire live three times, and I'm going for a fourth time soon - possibly the best live act I've ever seen - and yes their albums are fantastic! Their latest; 'So Many Nights'; is not soo good though IMO. They've got a new album in the works though.
