I need to buy an upgrade chip for a STB-C fitted to an Avant 32 VCR so that it can control Sky+, the dealers I've spoke to say that they can only order it if an engineer fits it - as I've fitted chips before and am confident/proficient in this area I want to fit it myself as it'll be cheaper - any ideas where I can order from and also if I need to change any other software. The STB-C installation guide says that the software in the TV should be fine.
Beovision Avant 32 RF, DVD1, Beovision 1, MX4002, Beound 3000, Beolab Penta MKII, Beovox Penta, Beolit 707, Beolink Passive, Beovox C30, Beocom 4, Beogram TX, 4 x Beo4, Form 1 & 2, Beocenter 7700, Beovox S65,

I can't see why either! Did they give a reason why? You may need to upgrade the software but since you already have STB-C its not necessary as far as I'm aware. If it were me I would just get B&O to take responsiblity of it, that way if there are any issues it would be up to them to sort it out, not to mention it would save you the hassle! I can't see them charging more than an hours labour to install it anyway since its not a big job.

Actually that's a good point and if it is only an hour then I may as well. Thanks Andrew

Absolutely spot on Graham. I still don't know why my dealer wouldn't supply me with replacement speaker drivers though, he quoted the same reasons which sort of made me wonder exactly how dangerous the insides of a pair of CX's could possibly be Chris.

Maybe its the risk of using a Soldering Iron Chris. Craig

You have to be certified by Bang & Olufsen to order and install spare parts. It has been this way for years. If Bang & Olufsen finds out that an authorized dealer delivers original spareparts to an unauthorized service center/person they will certainly sanction the shop.

Does that not render certain items useless and beyond repair then? My beo4 needs a screw!
If you think nobody cares, try missing a couple of payments.

Similarly, I need a rubber pad for a BeoLink 1000, and may shortly need a range of items, from the switch array for a Beo4 (the bubble plastic bit) through an STB-C PROM to a Line Output Transformer (LOPT). I certainly would not want to pay a certified technician to do the job of fitting these items, when I can do them myself. In the case of a LOPT, if B&O won't supply it, then I'll have to use a 3rd party product, which may therefore reduce the overall "safety" of the TV. The logical next question, then, is how does one become certified by B&O as a suitable person? Would being a qualified as an electronic engineer since 1986 and working in electronic repair since 1980 be sufficient?

he he. I guess you will have to throw it out then... "Joke". I think the main concern is spare parts where you have to be ESD secured to change them. Like an STB chip in an Avant.

The first thing you have to have is an ESD secured workplace... In my world you are more than qualified but i guess you will have to talk to head of service in struer.
