Now I know there are several Porche owners on Beoworld, well I need to pick your brains. Yesterday whilst out I saw a 1986 model 944S, in a fantastic shade of metallic yellow. Does anyone know the name of this colour? Decided thats the colour I am going to respray my motorbike. Craig

It could have been a non-Porsche Yellow. A very rare colour if it was original back in '86 as Guards Red was the 'only colour' to own a 944 in.. Lee

Hi! If it was a factory Porsche colour, it would have been "Speed Yellow", paint code X4. :-) Best wishes Llewelyn

Thanks for the answers, B&O, Porche paint codes. You can always get the answer on Beoworld. Craig

Hi Craig :) It could have been original paint... Porsche offered a 'match paint to customers sample' service. My own 928 has this treatment! As others mention, metallic yellow wasn't on Porsche's list of standard colours. Cheers, Ben

Its nothing spectacular like metallic yellow! Its a shade of metallic black, and also has a 'to customers spec' interior, Black leather with red piping and detailing. It was originally a Porsche demonstration car, so I guess that they wanted it to be a little bit different. Cheers, Ben

That does sound pretty old school... My dream combo would be white with white interior - and I dont mean just white seats, it would be white dash, door panels, headliner etc. I could pretend that I was Don Johnson in Miami Vice :) Mine is an 84, the first year of the S2 with the hotter engine and 4 speed auto.

Llewelyn: Sounds nice! I will definately have another 928 at some point - My last one was a relatively modern 91 GT, but my dream 928 would be an '83 in gold with dark brown interior and the 3 speed automatic 'box because old school rules for me! hehe
Like the one in Risky Business ? Love that one

definitely! i have some 35's at home. will happily scan! re: the op -i can't think of any factory metallic yellow from porsche. they had several yellows thru the years -plain old yellow, pastel yellow, signal yellow, speed yellow, etc... speed yellow showed up in the 90's as i recall, and was not metallic. someone correct me: but, the only factory metallic yellow that i can recall was in the early 90's from mazda. i believe they called it "chrome yellow" and was available on the rx-7. it had more to it though than just a metallic look, it seemed sort of "pearly." as mentioned here, it may have been a "color to sample" car, though i don't thk that many 944 owners would have opted this??? at any rate, my guess is you prob saw a re-spray, and that opens up the entire world of "yellow" -metallic, or otherwise... interesting side note: a very good friend of mine worked for the porsche+audi distributor here in the states back in the 70's. one of his tasks was using the "color to sample" option to spec interesting cars for dealer inventory. his all time favorite: aubergine w/ tobacco leather. the car survives today, and still wows them as i understand it!

Llewelyn: Oh my! Looks stunning... I hope you are very proud of her
thanks, but that would be past tense, she left the garage in a swap w/ a friend, otherwise the pic would have been dig, rather than this old 35mm from the "archives." it was fun, but life moves on...

Metallic yellow? Could the colour be described as champagne? I so, it's probably what Porsche calls "Zermattsilbermetallic". No, I don't own a 944, but a 924 that has made a huge hole in my wallet and doesn't even run...
