    Beocenter 9000 and cd-r/rw

Hello everyone! I´m thinking of buying this 9000
that I have had my eyes on for a long time. Only thing I´m wondering is that does it play burned cd´s (cd-r and cd-rw)? The technology is pretty old so I think not, but I´m optismistic

my 9300 plays them fine, though it is newer than the 9000...

    anyone else?

quick note: there has been some discussion on here recently re: the devaluation of the 9000 primarily because of failure w/ the cd unit, esp the clamping device. apparently parts are scarce or perhaps impossible to find unless someone is parting a working one out. if you like the style of the 9x00 series, you may want to consider the newer 9300. i *believe* that the cd parts for them are more readily available. certainly some parts are still stocked by b&o -as i have bought parts for mine within the last year direct from them.

What I found when I had a Beocenter 900 was. It would play most, but not all brands of CD-R. As for CD-RW it would not play them at all. Hope this helps.

Thanks a lot! This was very helpfull. 9300 would be nice if one of those would be available somewhere. I really like the style.

On the subject of the 9000 CD mechanism, has anyone tried a Naim like puck in a broken one?

Yep. I just bought the bc9000 system. Thats my first B&O product. Hope that the cd will stay in working order. I got the white cx100 speakers  on the side as a freebie. Do you have any opinions about them?

They probably have foam rot. Take the frets off the woofers and you will see what I mean.

When I had a pair of CX100's with my Beocenter 9000 I always found them to be lacking in Bass. What I would recomend is getting a Beovox Cona also.

B.t.w. it plays all kinds of burned discs. Amazing! Sometimes I just have to skip the first track.

The speakers lack alot of bass at the moment because the foam speaker surrounds are all broken (almost turned to dust). I guess those arent ment to survive time. I have to find someone to repair them. And if I happen to find a Cona in good condition, I will buy it. Thanks for the tip!

    Hi there

The rubber surrounds do that, which is very annoying, but there are 2 ways to cure the problem.

Firstly you buy new drive units from B&O. easily fitted yourself, or they can do it for you.

Or you can refoam them yourself. The foams are available cheaply on eBay, and easily fitted with some latex adhesive. By far the worst bit is removing all the old foam.  It goes like tar and is a messy stuff indeed. Other than that, the job is easy Smile

And yes, CX100s, are a bit bass-light, the CX50's I have are even moreso...

I bet these ones will come off mostly by using vacuum cleaner, but I`m not sure if I`m handy enough to fit the new surroundings to the speakers. Do you have info how much the new drive units from b&o would cost?

Yes, most of it comes off easily and cleanly, but the edges where it was glued to the diaphragm and the basket will most likely be very sticky and messy indeed, and the only real way to remove it from the diaphragm edge is to roll it off with your thumb. It is actually quite easy to do, but if you are thinking of going to the dealer, I've been advised by a fellow Beoworlder that replacement woofers are £25 each, which isn't bad at all. I must emphasise though that is only what I've been told - I've not yet checked myself...

     Hope you get them sorted.

    Re: Beocenter 9000 and cd-r/rw

    hi there

i have just recently repaired(refoamed) some penta driver units - mine were all sticky gooey etc - got it off the frame using a chisel ended screwdriver just scraping away when as much as possible removed i used cotton wooln buds soaked in meths - a messy process but it cleaned the base back perfectly#

the cone edge was also cleaned using meths applied with an artist sized paintbrush - the goo softened up then a blunt stanley or smaller craft knife was used to slice the goo off the the area was again treated with meths and the unsharpened edge was run round at 90degree to the cone to scrpae off the rest again the cone was final cleaned with meths on a cotton bud - the unit was then left for 24 hours for the meths to evaporate off - the refoam described elsewhere was then completed - i did the cone first then the outer rim with grear success - hope this helps!

Thanks!  I think I will change the foams myself encouraged by these tips.

The white paintwork of these cx100:s would also need some work since they are quite scrached but not so much that the aluminium would show. Got any ideas how to make them look better?

    Nooooo!

The white finish is VERY delicate. There is not a lot you can do to restore it other than a respray with car paint.

Thats a lot more than new foams , but if I dont manage to change them properly I guess have to pay the price.

The white paint is tricky indeed since it is not glossy, but I will try to sand it with really fine sandpaper and see what happens. That is what I have to do anyway if I paint them over. At least I now have something to do  in the evenings :)
