My Father-in law recently gave me great gift.

 

Pair of Beolab 6000 speakers

Beosound 2500 CD, Tuner cassette player

Beomaster a/v 7000 controller

and a pair of smaller B&O speakers.

I am pretty new to A/V and trying to figure out how to hook this up. The father-in law was is not knowledgeable and the set up was disconnected for a while which is why he gave it to me. I would like to run surround sound through it. I had the beolab 6000 speakers checked out and a driver replaced at the B&O store in Denver and also had the beosound 2500 checked and the CD laser replaced so they should sound amazing. I also brought in the AV 7000 and they recommended not using it for surround sound because it was too old and would not be able to run most modern surround sound formats. I have directv hd dvr and new vizio that are currently hooked up via hdmi lines.

Any thoughts of how I could utilize these amazing speakers and CD player? Another idea I thought of would be to use a new surround sound processor/preamp. My understanding is that these speakers have amps included and power should not be send to them or use the pre-outs from an AV receiver.  

Obviously the Beosound 2500 and Beolab 6000s will work together perfectly as a stereo system. The complication is the AV7000. This is a rather old surround processor which will only produce Dolby Pro-Logic sound. From the sounds of your system, I would tend to agree with your dealer as I think it will simply degrade the sound. If money were no object, then a Beosystem 3 is the obvious solution - but that is expensive. If you have pre-amp outs from your present system, they will work with the 6000s and I would head in this direction. What are the other speakers?

I think the smaller pair are beolab 2500's. They were purchased with the beosound 2500, and beolab 6000 about 10-12 years ago. There is no model number on them. What I was thinking of doing is buying a pre-amp/processor (maybe NAD, emotiva, or outlaw audio) and using the beosound cd/cassette/tuner and purchasing a DVD player and running everything through the pre-amp. Unless I can find a used beosystem 3 for a reasonable price. My understanding is that the speakers are active and do not need any amplification and if I send them outputs from traditional a/v receiver speaker outputs I could damage them. I have some of the AC wires but may need longer ones along with longer speaker wires. Any recommendations where to buy some longer or additional ones? I currently do not have any receiver for this system so I would look for either pre-amp/processor, receiver with pre-outs or used beosystem 3? Any clue what a beosystem 3 would run new/used?

Not seen a used Beosystem 3 but thousands of dollars! All your speakers are active. They will however be fine with the output from a pre-amp. The power cables are just standard figure of 8 connectors - don't go crazy getting expensive ones!

Your plan sound fine though obviosly you will compromise the remote a lttle. Use the Aux out to connect to the AV processor.
