    Beomaster 6000 Quad Speaker Choice

After lusting over them for years now, I finally got my hands on a Beomaster 6000 Quad. It needs some work doing to it, so I have some time to think about what the best speaker choice would be for this amp. I have lots of passive B&O speakers, and would like to try and match it up with a speaker range that I don't already own. It will be used in a large-ish room, and to keep my costs down, I'm going to buy an Airport Express to connect to it, so I can stream music as opposed to shelling out on an additional set of sources. I will probably be using the amp in two channel mode (i.e. normal stereo listening - which I know does defy the point a little, but when you get the collecting bug it's hard to stop) and had thought that some of the 80s Beovox panel speakers would be an interesting and visually pleasing choice. To pacify my girlfriend I had been leaning towards some Beovox 3000s, as I have been instructed that the 5000s are too big for this particular room!

Has anyone got one of these lovely amps in regular use? If so, what speakers are you using, and what do people think of the 3000s as a choice?

Well I ain't got a BM6000 quad but have been thinking of getting one. Acording to the B&O catalogues on site the ideal pick would be Beovox 5700. The quad setups are usally shown with 4 of those.

Any Beovox that would fit with correct values for the Quad would be a good match.

4 x Beovox 5700 is going to be large, very large indeed.

Beovox 3000 panel types, not easy to come by 2 pairs of them.

If you must get panel speakers, then maybe try the earlier versions P45 or p50

If you can get your hands on Beovox 3800 you should have something that its ok and is right datewise, and S60 or S75 would be be fine, actually S45-2 would be good so long as you are not going to wind everything up to the maximum. You can wall mount the S45-2s as well, there used to be a kit for this purpose but good luck on finding one.

Thanks for your comments guys. I was actually hoping to use some later speakers as I didn't want anything with a wooden veneered cabinet in the room where I plan to use the 6000 - also this might be quite a nice comparison with how products from different eras can work together and still look contemporaneous. I've always been quite taken with this idea since I saw Soundproof's excellent Beolab 5000 setup with some modern speakers, and fancy doing the same myself :)

What about some CX50's then John? Easy to come by as most have foam rot, replacement drivers are £25 each. priced up a set only this week. Or how about some Redlines?

If you are not worried about keepoing the correct date speakers, then a good substitute would be a couple of sets of RL60's - wall mounting, you may need to do some work on the speakers as some have a tendency to foam rot, and the bass thing can also rot out, however you can pick these up at a good price.

I might go for a pair of CX100s actually Craig, now you come to mention it. I've got some CX50s with my Beosystem 5000, but I use a Cona with these as they are a bit bass light. I do like bass a lot :)

Redlines are out I'm afraid Cadave - my girlfriend hates them unfortunately. I tried to persuade her that some RL140s would look good in our kitchen last year, but she wasn't having any of it.....

I tell you what I would go for if I had the space - the absolute bargain passive B&O speakers at the moment - a pair of MC120.2s. I got a pair recently and they're absolutely lovely sounding things. I enjoy listening to them more than my Beovox Pentas, though admittedly they're in a smaller room than the Pentas, so perhaps the comparison is slightly unfair. Anyhow, I guess I've narrowed it down to 3000 panels or CX50/100s.

Does anyone have a Beomaster 6000 in regular use? I seem to remember one of the continental members on the old forum using one in a surround set up with a modern DVD player and surround processor.
