Speakers suitable for Beomaster 4000, type 2406 (4 or 8ohms? etc)

    Hello,

This is my first time on the site and I aside from loving music I dont understand electrical terms used in the B & O manual.

I bought a beomaster 4000 last year along with a Beogram turntable from the 80`s (not got the details at hand) which I dont like as I hate the automatic start system.I am loking to hook it up with a nice Rotel turntable I have.

Anyway I am looking to match up this with some suitable speakers and am confused about the wattage and ohms required. The manual says the amp is capable of delivering 60 watts RMS and 100 watts music power per channel measured at 4 ohms.

I have seen a couple of vintage sets of speakers I like and wondered if anyone could say if they will work as they both are measured at 8 ohms and are rated at 50 watts. One is Mordant short and the other Magnum Opus.Does the ohms level mean I cannot use them?

Would I be better getting hold of a set of Beovox 5702`s/ 4702`s instead as this will take more expense and sourcing them here in Australia.  Can anyone please advise me on this issue?

    Thanks,

    Mark Davies,

    Perth,WA

The speakers you have will work fine. Into 8 ohms, the Beomaster 4000 will produce 40W RMS and 55W a channel music power. But don't worry about the figures as all speaker ratings are relatively meaningless as the impedance varies widely depending on frequency anyway! The Beomaster 4000 will drive most speakers extremely well! You have one of the better Beomasters!

    Welcome to Beoworld.

    Hey Peter,

thanks for the speedy reply, that is a relief. I have had the amp for over a year but what with moving to Oz and all the chaos ensued I am only just in a position to get my it up and running. I hope to one day have some B & 0 speakers to compliment this lovely piece of equipment but finding some 5702`s around Perth has proved elusive.

    Thanks once again,

    Mark
