    MX 5000 and Beolab 2500?

Recently bought a pair a Beolab 2500s and am wondering if I can use them in the powerlink sockets of my MX5000?

You need to buy a Passive – Active converter, so the 2500s plug into it, then the red and black leads can be plugged directly into the powerlink clips. Press SOUND, 3 on the Beolink 1000 to switch to the 2500s on EXTERNAL, then SOUND, 1 to switch back.

    Thanks.

    Richardd, Richardd, Richardd,

Powerlink is the 8-pin socket that modern BeoLab speakers use, the red and black clips, if they exist at all, are for non-B&O speakers, or the conventional BeoVox speakers.

Yes, you ought to be able to run the 2500's off of the PL sockets on the MX-5000.  I would caution you to be careful with heavy bass though.  Unlike it's bigger cousins, the BL-2500's  do not do their own bass-overload protection.  Other than that, Richardd's instructions are fine.

Additionally, make certain that the placement accounts for the lack of magnetic sheilding so you don't get magnetic blobs on your screen. And Russ is right, the MX 5000/5500 has PL the same as the BeoLab 2500s, so you're set to go.

SmileOK, thanks...so the speakers won't just power on automatically when I turn the tv on (as long as I have activated the powerlink sockets)?  The other active speakers that I have (penta 1s) turn on when there is a source playing thru, and shut down when the source is quiet.

If attached the same way, to the same source, the 2500's will operate the same as the Penta2/3.  The question is wether or not the MX has been informed that you have attached external speakers, and that it is expected to use them by default.  None of the TV's 'assume' that is your intention just because you plug something in.
