    How to deactivate front speakers?

I have an B&O avant DVD. I have connected two extra Penta's (speakers). They are plugged in on the front speaker jackets of the avant. Every time I switch on the TV for watchting TV the speakers are being activated automatic. The speakers are standing in an other part of the room. I only use the speakrs when I put a CD in the B&O Avant for listing to audio. The speaker of the Avant is for me sufficient for watching TV. With my remote I can swicth back to the own speaker of the avant by pressing " speaker" " 1". Is there a way that I do not have to switch back every time?

Re: How to deactivate front speakers?

Would it not be possible to plug the Pentas in as rears, then when yo want to listen to a CD, press 'speaker 4'?
When watching TV, the Avant would be on 'Speaker 1' as it wouldn't detect front speakers.
Just a suggestion, might be wrong.

Another idea might be adding a Beolink active to your system. Connect a Beolink active via masterlink to your Avant, connect the Pentas to the BL active via Powerlink and configure it to option 4. If you want to watch TV, DVD....just press TV, DVD. The Avant`s speakers will power up - no Pentas. If you want to listen to CD (audio), press LINK-DVD. The Avant`s speakers and the screen will not power up, just the DVD-player and the Pentas in SPEAKER 2 mode.Really simple.

I think that you will find it is not possible to configure rear speakers without front speakers in the set up menu of the Avant.  It has to have speakers set as front to allow you to set rear speakers. You can "fool" the Avant by plugging the PL cables into the front sockets, configuring them on screen, then unplugging them and plugging them into the rear sockets and then you can access the set up menu for rear speakers.

HOWEVER, why not just buy a pair of Lab5's and be done with it? Big Smile

The Avant don't have speaker detect, you tell it manually. The problem is that when you set phantom front speaker, the avant only plays MONO.

Re: How to deactivate front speakers?

MENU > SETUP > SOUND > SPEAKER TYPE > FRONT "NONE"

Its the only way the TV will play speaker 1 as default. Then just select:-

MENU > SETUP > SOUND > SPEAKER TYPE > FRONT "BEOLAB PENTA" when listening music.
