Although this TV is over 20 years old my wife insists on keeping it because of the rosewood surroundI  So, in order to get the best possible use from the set, I am going to link it to a Freeview box.  As there are so many of these on the market, I would appreciate any advice or recomendation on which make of Freeview box to buy, either as a simple box, or perhaps a box which incorporates both a hard drive and a DVD recorder. The BeoVisionLX2500 television is to old to accept a Set Top Box controller to enable operation of the Freeview box via your B&O remote control. Consequently the choice of box is not limited to one that the B&O software supports.

I have had very good reports of the Topfield PVR5800. This is a twin tuner Freeview box with integrated Hard Drive.  I believe that there are two versions available depending on how much capacity you think you will need for recording programmes.

We have had a Sagem Freeview box for over 2 1/2 years now. It does not have a hard drive, but if you want just a Freeview box Sagem are very good IMO. We use it with an MX5500 and the picture is superb.

The Topfield PVR5810 is very good and easy to use with large disk (500GB) option, like almost all of these types of STB's there are a few niggles.

What about a Thomson DTR-6300? Great little twin tuner,hddr (250g)Very nice handset and logical operation.Comes with Top UP Tv option included.Good price too!

I have a Topfield 5800 with 160GB ... which in my opinion is plenty ... more than this is wasted money, unless of course you want to keep 6 months worth of every soap that the BBC and ITV put out.

Niggles are almost none and the user interface is streets ahead of anything else I have used.

Thank you all for your helpful advice.  It has been decided (decreed) that there will only be a FreeView box, no recorder.  So I am getting a Humax F2-Fox-T which, it is claimed, has a high sensitivity.
