Hello again. A very naive question which is asked with trepidation but... my parents 3300 system (tuntable) has a suspected faulty stylus and cartridge. I have four questions.

1. when replacing do I have to replace both the stylus and cartridge?

2. what other brand can be substituted as replacement parts (yep, I know but my dad is having "heart failure" at the cost of new B&O parts)

3.Could anyone advise where we can purchase alternative or substitute stylus and cartridge in Sydney or Australia?

4. This is a bonus dummies question (for me) but how do I know what part is faulty i.e. how do I know if the problem lies in the stylus or the cartridge...

Cartridge and stylus are in one, check the product section on this site. If you need to source another cartridge a SMMC4 from Sound Smith in the States or trying your luck on ebay for one of the B&O originals are your best options. 

Try taking the 3300 or cartridge to B&O Service they can probably test each for you.

Did you get the phono stage sorted? If not try the QED Disksaver on battery...

In answer to part 4 - the cartridge and stylus are an integrated unit you cannot replace the cartridge of stylus separately.
