    New Vinyl LP's

Just came across this site and I thought I'd share. I'm sure lots of people know that LP 's can be bought new but just incase. Even Madonna's new album is on vinyl. Who would have thought.

If you're talking about me mentioning Madonna...I fully agree. I was just fascinated to see that it was released on vinyl. They have a lot of the old stuff too which they have re-issued.

    It was just in generel.

The sound of vinyl is more "there". I think.

    Re: New Vinyl LP's

The old stuff always seems to suit vinyl better but may be its just psychological. We think it suits it better because its from the era of vinyl but it would be interesting to try some new music recorded on vinyl on a Beogram just to see what it sounds like.

I have a White Stripes and Spoon LP on vinyl.  New music sounds good on vinyl, too.

Is that Ga Ga Ga Ga? I've been trying to get hold of that album for quite a while - wicked stuff from what I've heard.

Recently I got DJ Shadow's Endtroducing on vinyl, but the second LP was missing... Sad

    Re: New Vinyl LP's

I've been told that the vinyl edition of Portishead's new album is very nice. According to a friend of mine who has both the CD and the LP, the LP version has been mastered differently - more dynamic than the CD mastering, very nice in these over-compressed times. It sounds really, really good and of course it's nice to know that there still exist mastering engineers that don't think that mastering = removing all dynamics.

It's Gemme Fiction.  One of the White Stripes LPs (double LP Elephant) is a bit warped Angry

I actually bought these from Circuit City's web site (a major US electronics chain - kind of the last place one would expect to find vinyl).  One LP that I ordered, they eventually said they could not get which was a bit of a disappointment - if you don't have something do no sell it.  If you dig deep enough on the web site, you can find vinyl... at least you could when I bought these 3 years ago.  Right now, my turntable and LPs are packed away - hoping the get them going soon.

WOW! great tip for us in the states. i had no idea cc had vinyl, and no less than (11178) hits! prices seemed very reasonable too.

    thx!

    Re: New Vinyl LP's

In early May, I bought a new vinyl LP which was my first "new" LP for over a year, although there is such a massive supply of used LP's that its a great time to get your back catalogue topped up via ebay etc.

Its by UK singer Chris Wood called Tresspaser - the special edition vinyl version comes in a triple gatefold sleeve, with his previous album also included.  Its sounds incredibly good on my Bgram 7000.

Its just nice" to own items like this - somehow they have more substance than a download or evena CD.  However, you can get the Cd version in Fopp for a tenner  - highly recommended.  His song "The Cottagers Reply" about a Cotwold old timer refusing to sell his house to a London couple is a classic.  Looking forward to hearin him in the summer as a part of the folky "supergroup" The Imagined Village.

On a related note, I just dug out my Stone Roses first album, which as mentioned above, is a version pressed on 180gm viny, on two 45rpm disc, instead of one 33rpm.  Brilliant.

I can recommend all vinyl lovers to check out www.musicstack.com

It's a site compiling lots of retailers where you can buy both used and new vinyl records, CD's etc.

I've used it regularly in the last 4-5 years. Make sure you check out the retailers feedback before ordering, though!

    I prefer the 180 gram vinyls :)

    Re: New Vinyl LP's

    That's interesting.

It's totally true about the mastering.

Generally you will do a master for vinyl and a master for digital.

I'm a musician by profession and I find  that a lot of people really overdo the compression these days, trying to squeeze that "Excitement" factor into the recording. They try to make it sound really "Hot", but the end end result is just ear fry.

A few albums that I've bought recently on Vinyl have sounded a lot more listenable on vinyl than on digital (You get a free copy on mp3 with most vinyl albums now, due to this I've ditched CD's completely).

In the past month or so I've bought the new albums by "Times New Viking" & "the Teenagers", and just got the Vinyl copy of the new Radiohead album (having got the mp3 release when it came out).

The only one where the digital companion is comparable in quality to the vinyl version (what a surprise) is the Radiohead album.

The other two sound insanely harsh on digital and actually pretty perfect on vinyl. I guess just because of the nature of vinyl it warms things up and smooths the edges off. Anyway, my 2 cents.

    Thanks

    Kris

(P.S I just got the heavy vinyl re-issue of Wire's "Chairs Missing" yesterday! It sounds awesome! Next up is the new Spiritualized album and the re-issue triple blue vinyl edition of Dennis Wilson's "Pacific Ocean Blue" CANNOT WAIT)

Never seen www.gemm.com before - very nice site, too!

What I like about www.musicstack.com, though, is you can specify media so if you are searching for a specific album you will only get hits in vinyl if that's what you want.

    Re: New Vinyl LP's

With the Beogram 8002 in top performing condition and now also a Beogram 6006 white edition performing and looking like new( I have yet to pick it up at Dillen) I got the best recordplayers than I ever had. I never got into hifi and once it was B&O I came across it is that audio and video brand I will stick too for as long as can be.

I grew up with vinyl and I'm very happy about that fact that you can still actually get new vinyl mostly on 180 gram discs. Even the biggest music store in town is now selling vinyl but it's only about 5% of the inventory maybe less. Ebay and secondhand stores also gives alot of vinyl options.

In february 2008 I got my Cdx. It had a broken left hinge and electronic isues but thank's to Beoworld members it was up and running rather quickly. It play's pretty good for it's age. 98% of the times Cd's sound good but I noticed Master of Puppets by Metallica being slightly better on original vinyl. My Cdx is in strong competetion with my Beograms for sure. Again it depnds on the format and if some stuff is only aviable on cd well there is not much to do about it.

I have used www.gemm.com many times and have been very satisfied.  I also use www.netsoundsmusic.com in the UK which is also very good.

In the US, I have purchase new vinyl LPs from www.acousticsounds.com.  They have very good reissues especially Decca classical music.

    I love vinyl records!

    Re: New Vinyl LP's

I read a feature in spin on the Metallica re-issues.

The guy in charge of the re-issues at warner said that they compared the vinyl to the cd's and were so blown away my the vinyl version that they decided to re-master the albums and JUST re-issue them on vinyl. Pretty awesome!

Apparently Sony is thinking of starting to do Vinyl Re-Issues too.

The gist of the story was that vinyl is probably going to outlast CD's (as it did with 8-track, cassette and mini disk too).

    Pretty interesting read.
