Has any member ever gone back to older products?

Is it just me or have any of our members gone back to older products. For example at the moment we have a Beosound 3000, I am serously considering going for a Beocenter 9500. Before we had the Beosound 3000 we had a Beocentre 9000, something Carol has never forgiven me for.LaughingLaughing Not the reason I am thinking of swapping though. One of the main reasons I went for the Beosound 3000 was to be able to use Beoport. Lately though I seem to be using CD's and Vinyl more. Also I miss been able to control a Beogram through Datlink. Another reason is that the Beosound 3000 seems to have lost it's charm after 18 months something the old 9000 never did.

Re: Has any member ever gone back to older products?

I've just replaced my Beovox 3000 (flat Panel) speakers with MC120.2's. Even though the panels are extremely chic and unobtrusive the performance is nowhere near as good, even SWMBO agreed with me on this.

I always try and have the best equipment for the task regardless of the era it was made or how it looks. Thankfully the retro look is cool again so I'm able to get way with more these days.Stick out tongue

Up until recently my most used piece of equipment was my Beomaster 900M and Beovox 1000s in our kitchen. I listen to Radio 5 a lot for sports news, and always had the 900 on when downstairs. I'm not sure this counts as being a move to an older product as I still have my 900, but I now listen much more to my Jet Present 607 valve set that Dillen restored on a Vintage Products thread a year or so back. Think there's about 7-8 years between them, but a light year in terms of the transistor vs. valve technology.

Oh - I also 'upgraded' my living room system from a Beosystem 5000 with CX50s and Cona to a Beomaster 8000/Beogram 4002/Beogram CDX with Beovox Pentas. That was a step up in my opinion, and one you could probably only do with the audio products. I don't think I'd swap my RF Avant for an L2500!

We do have older products that get used all the time. Most used is our Beomaster 900K which is in the Kitchen. It was the first piece of B&O I moved to the new house last week. Also we have a Beomaster 1000 and Beovox 1000's in the Bedroom, but this gets less use I have to say. I do like to have a mix of older and newer products.

Re: Has any member ever gone back to older products?

    Hi all

For my part, I have less and less Beolinked products. I'm naturally losing all Beolink advantages, but I can now have different generations B&O products throughout the house, from a Beomaster 900K+Beovox 2500in the kitchen  to a Beocenter 2 in the livingroom, enjoying each of them very much, instead of "just" pushing Beolab 2000 or 3500 buttons.... And my not-so-old Beocenter 9300 matches perfectly with my brand new Beolab 4, in the den. One of the most magic facts with B&O is definitely the one that allow everyone to play with time as well as products....

    Avant 28 DVD, BC2, 2300, BL2500, 8000, to name a few...

Re: Has any member ever gone back to older products?

I haven't gone back from newer B&O but I have migrated from newer non-B&O kit to a Becenter 7000 and a pair of S45-2's , and initially assumed it was the starting point toward buying some newer and more expensive B&O kit.

The trouble is I am no longer sure I want the newer kit!  I listen to more vinyl these days which limits  options on newer B&O, and I am not convinced that the entry-level active speakers will sound all that much better than the ones I have now, especially as the sound signature of the Uniphase Speakers seems to suit my ears. I have also replaced out no-name newer CRTs with older Beovisions.

At the end of the day the SQ I have now is more than good enough to allow me to enjoy my music, and I don't want a new system enough to justify spending what it would cost.I don't really do home cinema so our LX TV's are more than up to the job of watching SD broadcasts.

I don't think this attitude is unique to B&O owners. I browse a number of audi-related forums and increasing numbers of people seem to be of the opinion that good quality equipment  is still good quality equipment even when it is 30+ years old, and are sticking with what they have.

The 9500 is a great product. It has many input, so you can connect an airport express on the back to stream your MP3s from your computer with iTunes. Or plug an ipod directly into it.

With a converter it works OK with other ML products.

You can also use Active and non Active speakers.

I'd use the Beosound in another room, maybe link the two... and if the Beosound 3000 remains the Master, you may even be able to keep your N.MUSIC.

Have you got a B&O TV?

I have gone back from Beosystem 2000 to Beolab 8000 system with a cdx.

In general a big step forward but older system took longer time to find and get in correct working order.

I don't plan to go back when the LX5500 needs to be changed sometime in the future. Hopefully still a decade or two.

Yes at the moment the Beosound 3000 is connected to a BV3-32. At present the only speakers are the internal ones of the BV3. Not bothered about N.music as the PC is now going to be in the bedroom..

Re: Has any member ever gone back to older products?

Since my first purchase in 2001, I only bought new B&O stuff: BeoSound 9000, Beovision 7-40, Beovision Avant 28 VTR, Beovision 1, Beolab 1, Beolab 6000, Beolab 4000, 2 x Beolab 2000, Beocord V8000, BeoSound 3, Beocom 2, beocom 6000, LC2's and Beo4's. But I've gone very retro the last few months! I bought a Beogram 9000, Beosystem 7000 with Beolink 7000, Beosystem 4500 and a Beomaster 8000, Beocord 9000, Beogram CDX and Beogram 8002. I really enjoy the older stuff from B&O!!!

Quite an Intresting topic you started Craig.

Not gone back yet, but considering it.

Odd coincidence that you are considering exchanging your BS3000 because I am in an similar situation. I am seriously considering "downgrading" my BS3000 (on wallmount with BL25000) for an two-way BC2300 for two resaons: I am a fan of two-way and the BC2300 was my first contact with B&O. I don't think I would miss the N.MUSIC capability as I am still not willing to take the plunge into all the MP3/iTunes stuff for music at home.
I wouldn't say that my BS3000 lost its charm as I like the clear and classic design ligne but if I can get a good deal on a two-way BC2300 then my BS3000 could well be exchanged.

    So far for me

I've just purchased a Beogram 8002 and a Beocenter 9500 (neither of which I have seen yet!).

Bought the BC9500 from my dealer (£350) and am assured it is mint and fully serviced. Bought the BG8002 from eBay (£200) and photos suggest it is in good cosmetic order. If the MMC2 is in good order, that alone pays for the deck!

It was more of a punt on a couple of pieces which I have always fancied owning in my youth and were relatively cheap to buy today. I will probably never use them though as I still think my BC2 takes some beating sonically when connected digitally to the BL5's.

However, it will be interesting so see (or rather hear) what the BC9500 CD sounds like through the same speakers and how it compares to modern day transports.

Well as soon as it is ready, I will be going back to a Beolab 5000 system, lovingly restored by Classic Audio. Really looking forward to this though it will mean the demotion of my 4400 and Beogram 4000. I don't plan to go reel to reel just yet though so will find a suitable CD player as well! Pride of place will be the Beogram 3000 though!

What an impressive piece of kit Peter!

Do you know if they sell restored Beolab 5000 systems? I'd love to put my hands on one, however they are so incredibly scarce.

That is actually Frede's 3000. Mine is at the paint shop and will be blue! Hopefully the 12" arm is winging its way to Venø as we speak and I am going down to Bellac next week to collect my Beovox 5000 speakers and various other bits. If anyone fancies a trip to Bellac and back with the chance of some vintage B&O as a reward, let me know. I have already booked the ferry from Newhaven - 5/6/2008 returning on 7/6/2008. I would love some company!
