CD50 won't play the first part of track 1

    Hi,

I'm new to Beoworld, maybe someone can help me out?

I just picked up a Beosystem 5000 on ebay but the CD 50 wont play the first part of track 1!!

It usually starts at about 1:35 of track 1 no matter what CD I play. Any ideas about what I might do to fix it?

    Here's a picture ...

    Cheers

    Jeremy

My guess is that this is a cd laser carriage lubrication issue but I am no expert with this device. Member Dillen is your man and I suggest that you PM him and ask his advice.

Oh! Welcome to BeoWorld by the way.

    Regards Graham

Yes, the laser block travels on a rail and a bearing ball and as Graham already suggested, clearing this fault is often a matter of cleaning and lubricating of the laser carriage rail.

The old lubricant collects dust and dirt and seems to be especially fond of smoke particles. It hardens and starts to bind the carriage.

Clean gently and add a tiny amount of fresh silicone grease, You can play a 70min+ CD and jump to the last track to access the frontmost parts of the rail.

There could be electronic faults resulting in the same behaviour but the above mentioned is by far the most common cause.
