    B&O's 1960's "Stereo Cha-cha-cha" song

    Hello.
On the B&O's main website's "Our history" page is a flash-video called "Bang & Olufsen - Branding through 80 years". It's a great 15-min document with a lot of interesting old tv-ads and history.

Now, in the beginning of the 1960's section there is a short extract from Katy Bødtger's "Stereo Cha-cha-cha" track which was in some B&O test record for demonstrating the new stereophonical technique. Is this track available for download somewhere? Or could I get the record somewhere to make an MP3 copy for my iPod. When I heard the track for the first time I really liked it and now I would like to have it as a full version to listen it with my B&O stuff from the 60's.

I sent a query to B&O some weeks ago and they answered today that they couldn't find any info about this track (?!) and they suggested to try from some internet forum (and there we go!).

If somebody have an extra copy of that B&O test record - I would like to buy it! Or if anybody has any other info about the track (or the record it is on) please comment.

I have this record in my collection.

Both sides of this stereo introduction record would be appropriate for playing on 60's B&O stereo's.

but of course it should be from the original source, the 7 inch single.

I suppose copying it for public downloading would be a violation of copyrights ...

but even if quite rare, these records do come up for sale occasionally and shouldn't be too hard to find.

    Martin,

You put a smile on my face. Music doesn't get much more 60s than that! What do you know? An ode to stereo!

    Party!!! < - - "Cha-cha-cha"

    Great work Matin!
Indeed very 60's! I really like this track as it's happy and simple and when it is about B&O it's just superb! This will be played next with my Beomaster 901 - which is the closest by year to this song. Perfect! Wink

    Thanks a lot!

p.s: If someone speaking danish could write down the lyrics one could sing-a-long! Laughing Well, I'd love to know what the words means. Anyway the danish way of pronouncing "stereo" is lovely - sounds almost like french!

Thanks for the song, Martin! The stereo-effects must have been extraordinary at the time the song came out. Translated lyriks would be interesting, if one of our danish-speeking members could do that, it would be great.

This is now the ringtone on my phone!!! I edited it so that the it starts when the singing starts!! I think I'm very cool and I annoy everyone by saying that my ringtone is stereo because the song says so even though I only have one speaker on my phone.

    Re: B&O's 1960's "Stereo Cha-cha-cha" song

    Thanks guys.
It's definitely a part of B&O's history that is rarely heard of.

The recording was made in London, England since their were no stereo studios and record facilities
    in Denmark at the time.
I seem to remember that this record bears the title of being Denmark's first stereo record.
Katy Bodtger definitely was one of the (if not THE) leading vocalist back then so all sails were set.

The first experience of stereo sound must have impressed listeners.
This would have been completely new to most people but B&O actually experienced with stereo recordings way earlier.
I have an article somewhere telling about two Beocord Unitape built together as a dual tape-recorder. I think
it was two 511K's so it must have been in the mid-50's.

The Cha-Cha song is merely about 1/6th of what's on the demonstration single.
It's the last part of the B-side which also has versions of the song as a swinging waltz and a somewhat dramatic march.
The A-side carries train sounds, presenting stereo as a "phonetic doubletrack", speech and music too but lacking room on my ISP webpage, I cannot upload the whole thing.
About 11Mb is needed for the two MP3 files.
