Experiment with beamer and Beosound 1

Saturdaynight I will do an experiment with the beamer my wife has brought home. She wants to test a powerpoint slideshow.

In the time left I will try to setup the beamer for some home entertainment.

I will hook up my PowerBook G4 to the Acer X1160 beamer (via VGA) and insert a DVD in the computer.

The audio will be redirected to my Beosound 1, which will act as center/stereo speaker.

The experiment was a succes. The Beosound 1 did a good job. On saturdaynight my wife and I saw the movie Hidalgo.

The movie was 200cm wide instead of on our Beovision 7-32 which is 70cm wide.

On sunday afternoon I closed the curtains, set up the beamer again and witnessed the movie 300. Now not with the Beosound 1, but with the A8 headphones. Because I don't want to wake up my wife and son who rest some time during the day.

It was a succes because we could project the movies directly on the wall. The wall has a vanille kind of colour. But did didn't affect the colours of the movie.

My wife has seen the possibilities of a beamer and projecting directly on the wall. That is the first step to actually setting up a permanent beamer in our living room.

Now I hope she will bring the beamer more often.

I use a Infocus IN72 Non HD projector sometimes to throw DVDs on the wall. For the price it's an awesome product. no HD but one doesn't need that anyway for DVDs. it is also reasonable quiet.

The thing is is, when you start with the beamer I think you want blueray and other HD sources. The picture definitely becomes a bit un-sharp when you hit 100" and higher.

If you compare the picture on the Wall with a screen you will see the difference. I used a small portable screen in the past, but then switched to the wall for convenience.

Thanks JK for your reply. I appreciate it very much.

I'm watching 300 again on the BV7-32 and I must say the beamer version was more convinsing.

Hi Coolskin, why don`t you use your BV7-32 as a cinema master. Connect the projector to the projector out and you can watch all your video sources on the screen/wall including surround sound if you have. I have a Hitachi connected to my BV7-40 MKII. the projector, screen and light are controlled by a Lintronic box triggered by the cinema control modul. this modul is an option but not very expensive. By pressing FORMAT 0 (or CINEMA on Beo5) the projector powers up, screen comes down, light dims and the BV7 turns to STDBY-position, switches to SPEAKER5 mode, closes the picture and opens it on the screen. Works great. I have an X10 module connected to the Lintronic box that disconnect all cinema devices from the mains when not in use, because we don`t use the cinema mode every day, so the projector/screen are not in standby mode all the time. The X10 modul is also controlled by the FORMAT 0 command. Stefan

    Hi Stefan,

I like your beamer solution. Control of our window screens is allready with a relay box from Lintronic. Super solution.

At this moment I'm figuring out what's best in our situation. But most important is that my wife wants/likes a movie projection (WAF).

Yes WAF is important. I bought the projector and a screen, got a Lintronic box and installed the whole thing first just to see how it works.

Then I had a little demo for my wife and my kids and they liked it. Otherwise I would have sold it.

Now we have cinema nights with the whole family in the weekends but only in wintertime .

I got the relay box from Lintronic and control some 24V curtains, but have not yet integrated it into the cinema automation.

    The most used relay is

We use the more simple relay box (..) for control of our sun screens.
