    turntable troubles with Beocenter 4600

    recently bought my first B&O.

everythings working fine except when the arm returns across the record to the starting point it scratches across the surface of the record. Ive tried it on every counterweight setting from 0 to 2 and it still doesnt lift the stylus high enough to make it across the record without scratching it.

     Any ideas?

Id be gutted if I couldnt get my first B&O working properly!

Thank you to everyone in advance.

Re: turntable troubles with Beocenter 4600

Hi James, and welcome to BeoworldBig Smile

I am not familiar with this model, but looking at the pictures, the deck looks similar to ones which regularly have this problem.
It is caused by a brass pin seizing up in it's sleeve due to dried librication. It turns into gunk.
Are you happy to go inside it?
If so, I will find the thread which explains how to fix it in a few minutes.

its based around the beogram 1500 i believe!!

I could probably be brave and have a look inside.

if you could locate that thread for me it would be excellent!!

    Thank you very much.

Anyone got any other ideas? Cheers !

     Im rather worried!

Re: turntable troubles with Beocenter 4600

just tried it again and its tending to skip towards the middle of the record

sometimes when i press the 33 button to get the arm to move over to the start of the LP the arm isnt even high enough to make it onto the record and just knocks into the side. I have a thin rubber platter cover on the turntable but i assume you dont put the record straight onto the metal anyway so this shouldnt make any difference?

also the screw that you mentioned in the other thread with the red arrow apppears to be holding the arm up. its leaning on top of it.

    Thanks for all your help!

Re: turntable troubles with Beocenter 4600

Yes James, the screw is supposed to be holding the arm up, it's an adjuster.
The bottom of the screw rests on a black, curved plastic piece. This piece is supposed to move up and down, but can't because of the dried up oil on the aforementioned brass pin.
I wouldn't keep trying to play records 'til you have fixed that problem.
    Have you been inside yet?

You do put the record on the 'metal' - there is nextel painted onto it - it is perfectly safe!

ahh alright cheers for your help

I'll have to wait till tuesday to have a look inside. or possibly tomorrow morning

I hope i can get to the part you mention as its the beocenter rather than the beogram.

But theres only one way to find out I suppose!

    Thanks!
