iPhone movie on my Beovision Avant

I am silly to try you think, but this is very important to me!

The iPhone has a component AV cable with Y Pb, Pr coming out which look like red green and blue plugs to me, and then there is red and white audio sound.

So I tried to hook this up and make it play. On the TV, there is a set of component video jacks on the back, colored red green and blue, say Y Pb Pr, up near the top, and then the whole row of various video and audio inputs on the bottom.

I hook up the Y Pb Pr on top then the two audio red and white to the audio red and white inputs on the bottom for STB. (I don't use a set top box, I just have a DVD player for my TV, no cable.)

And when I set to play STB on the remote, then I can hear the sound, but see no picture.

I try to figure out on the remote control menu, the place where you say what the input for which external source are, and I select for input for STB that it is generic YPbPr, so that should work, I think, but the screen is just black, and I just hear the sound, no picture.

Is this too silly easy or ridiculous to try? I really don't know. I just really want to watch certain movies I have. Help? Thank you thank you so much.

A US Avant obviously! Have you registered the equipment? I attach the relevant page of the manual - you would appear to be using the correct plugs!

Assuming you are working with North American equipment, we then have to check whether you have a genuine, Apple-branded Video Out cable for your iPhone. Earlier 3rd-party ones won't work with the iPhone. You will also have to go into the Settings menu and enable Video Out there.

So Thank you very much. My cables for Component AV are from the Apple Store. On the iPhone it asks do I want Video Out, I say yes, and the settings are for Widescreen Off or ON. Maybe I should check that makes a difference? Anyone know?

    Thank you!

Peter Thank You for the manual page. I cannot find mine since I moved, and I just for the first time plugged the Beovision in and try to watch various things.

The page of the menus looks very familiar! I was there! I went to the ETERNAL SOURCES and the STB and made it to say GENERIC YPbPr and then OK EXIT and that is what it said always next. But I cannot see a movie from the iPhone, just hear the sound.

Anything else I should do? THank you for helping.

I have US Avant and it should work. Is your Iphone outputting 480p. It must be 480p or you will not have video.

Re: iPhone movie on my Beovision Avant

    Wei,

I don't have any profound advice to offer regarding setting up your Avant with the iPhone (I had enough trouble hooking up my US spec BV8).  However, I did want to share a brief story with you and the rest of the forum.

We rented a condo at the Gulf Coast for a few days during the kids' Spring Break this past year.  The condo was pretty slick - it had Toshiba plasma TVs in each room and a "media room" that had a 50" plasma, too.  The feed coming in to these TVs, though, was either satellite or cable and it looked awful.  Granted, much of it was in standard def and there is probably some co-axial cable splitting in a big condo building.  However, I was completely underwhelmed with the TVs, even when looking at a HD source like Discovery HD.  My in-laws were also there (ugh) and they wanted to watch "No Country for Old Men" which I had on my iPhone.  I also had the component cable with me.  I hooked it to the 50" plasma and it looked great.  Not HD, but very acceptable and better than any of the other sources that I'd seen coming in to the plasmas that weekend.  It was really dumbfounding to me that my little iPhone was driving that big TV, but it definitely is an acceptable alternative to DVD when traveling.  Incidentally, we use composite cables to connect our iPhones to the car's entertainment center and the kids get to watch cartoons and Disney movies sans DVDs when we travel.  Really slick technology that Apple stuff.
