BS3 update: lost Panasonic RS232 control

I just got my BeoSystem 3 back from the shop with a SW upgrade from 2.0 to 4.17.  Now my commercial Panasonic TH-37PH10UK no longer turns on/off from the RS232 (Monitor) connection.  Is anyone out there having luck with this combination?  I was hoping I'd get lucky and gain sensor-based auto-contrast.  I tried the D9 and D10 BeoVision 4 settings.

Have you disabled the panel autodetection?

I've never ventured into the service menus.

That was the only way to get my TH50PH10 to work with BS3.

    Good luck, Marcus

Hello, i've got the same problem with a customer so, do you find a solution, we've tryied to cancel the autodetection withwout result.

The customer as also lost the autocontrast.

Perhaps it's interresting to make a little box who will control the PDP.

Re: BS3 update to 4.17: lost Panasonic RS232 control

I think it would be a shame to have to make a little box controling the PDP, as the Beosystem 3, this very big box, is advertised as the "stage manager", controlling everything... If it's meant to sell some BV4, IMHO it's a mistake, as people connecting a Panasonic plasma to a Beosystem 3 simply doesn't want to pay so much money for just a screen, outdated 6 months after its release. Customers buying Beovision4 and people buying Bs3+Pana are not thinking the same way.

So I hope that it's just a new bug which will be corrected VERY soon!

off course but i think that the situation is like that.

You must have a B&O screen if you want all the function

Re: BS3 update to 4.17: lost Panasonic RS232 control

The question would be how the BS3 recognizes the Panasonic Panel as BV4 instead of a TH-50 something.

The DVI ID tells the connected System what type, name, resoltion etc it is. For my understanding this is done by the DVI module (e.g.the name/type number of the module is shown and not the display if you check this in the service menu).

So would a B&O spare part DVI module solve the problem?

yes the pdp is identified by the dvi.

i think if you change the dvi input socket you will have the same problem.

remmember when we had to update the PDP D7 (only VGA) monting dvi kit, we had to update two hex files contained in hardware.

Last Summer, a dealer told me that B&O offered a DVI card that might give Panasonics the identity of a BV4, which I was considering to get auto-contrast working.  I'm wondering if this would fix the current issue.  I'd prefer not to do this though, as the card is, I'm sure, a bit pricey.

My dealer is currently looking into solutions.  I'll keep you posted.

We found a solution for the on/off control of pdp

we control the rs232 with the ir input

The B&O BV4 plasma screen actually is a Panasonic screen. You can even get access to the Panasonic software over the service menu. When I replaced my Beosystem 1 by a Beosystem 3 my BV4 50" plasma had to receive an additional software upgrade.

Re: BS3 update to 4.17: lost Panasonic RS232 control

We also have the same problem with a client here and we're pretty baffled.  Beyond losing control via RS-232 it seems that every time the serial cable is even plugged into the panel it shorts the entire thing out.  If the RS-232 is plugged in the Panel's OSD ceases to show up using the Panasonic remote.  We figured that obviously since the 232 isn't working we'd go back to using the IR control, but unfortunately we weren't even able to get control back with the use of IR.  Should turning off the autodetect of the panel affect IR control or would that only be relavent for RS-232 control?

Puts my mind a bit at ease at least knowing that someone else has bumped into a similar problem and there may be a solution somewhere in sight!

$380USD but as far as I know there isn't a difference between the B&O one and the Panasonic card for about the same price.

i haven't only the sofware for the upgrade of pdpd7

i don't think that it is a B&O software available for the other pdp

Hi there, is there any update on that issue? I would like to update my Bs3 but not surebecause I don't want to loose the RS232 control of my Panasonic plasma.

Was this ever solved?  I have a similar screen (42PH10) and was hoping to use it when I eventually save the cash to buy a BS3.

    Two work arounds

    1. Switch Autodetection off and select BV4-50 D9 as display

    2. If you have a Beo 5 Remote there is a download which can easily be added to your Beo 5 remote by your dealer on Beoworld which allows control of on and off switching of Panasonic Plasmas

Bumping this thread up.  Has anybody successfully used a B&O DVI card to get a Panasonic commercial plasma display to work with auto-contrast?

How do you switch autodetect off - can't find anywhere in the menus - the Configuration menu is blank.
