    Beosystem 5500 Questions

    Evening Guy's......

I've recently aquired a Beosystem 5500 minus the CD player and have some questions.

Does anyone on this forum know of, or where I could get a matching used Beo 5500 CD player - I'm not too concerned about the appearance although a working unit is a must.

The record deck is near mint but I need a cartridge, so again any members have an MMC available

And lastly, the Tape deck plays great although the eject fails - the motor can be heard but the unit won't eject - I have to pull the tape deck out - is this an easy fix.

I'd like to avoid Ebay if possible as bidding wars "do my head in".

Linked to my Penta's it really does sound pretty good, but I'd like to fix the issues referenced above.

As always any help would be greatly appreciated

    Steve

Well I was going to suggest Ebay for a Beogram CD 5500, but you say you don't want to go down that route. As for a cartridge, I would suggest getting a new one from www.sound-smith.com Not cheap but well worth it as sound wise they are better then the original B&O ones. Your problem with the Beocord sounds like the drive belt that opens thee deck has perished, the others are probably on there way out too as they will all be the same age. One of our members Dillen can supply belt kits and very good fitting instructions. may be worth dropping him a PM for a cost.

    Hi Steve

I've sold two recently on ebay

I have got another one for sale that has been serviced which I could let you have for £165.

Whereabouts are you - I might be able to deliver it.

    Cheers

    Hi there........

Thanks for contacting me - I'm very new to B&O and am probably holding out for a cheaper unit.

However I'll come back to you if all else fails.

    Cheers

    Steve

You won't get one much cheaper than that!

The cd player is the bit that's worth all the money. The beomaster and the tape........well you can hardly give them away!!

Bargain! Which one is it? Early or late? I wouldn't say no to an early one!

    Re: Beosystem 5500 Questions

You can actually see the difference in the 2 I've recently sold - the later ones had an additional ring on the CD tray to take smaller CDs - there may be other differences that I don't know of.

Peter - I do have an earlier one which has been fettled By Tim J. (dry solder joints). I went to have a look for it's serial number and was a bit shocked to find the serial number label has been removedSurprise I can assure you I paid good money for it, but as to it's previous history, I wouldn't like to sayBig Smile Let me know if you're interested - I could deliver it up to you at no cost - it would be a pleasure to meet up with you. I also have a later one, serial number 6264164. I also have a CD50 serial number 4466753.

    Cheers
