Hi all - got myself a mint 9000 the other day with a slight fault, the spring or mechanism that holds the CD in place as it spins has broken and as a result you can hear the CD spinning in the unit incontrollably and it opens the door thinking no CD. Question is: 1) I would hope its an easy fix and can I use any generic CD spring or is it a special spring and 2) I dont want to trust it to a small repair shop electrician as I'd have nightmares, anyone in Birmingham have a reliable B&O person to recommend?

Cheers all - would love to get it working as I may sell as a mint unit and upgrade to my all time favourite - the 9500.....

Bad news Dave, the spring and plastic bit that holds it is no longer available and there is no fix that I know of. Loads of 9000's are now consigned to spending the rest of their days as very attractive tuner/tape players for this very reason!

Your only answer is to buy a scrap 9000 that has this bit intact and do a swap.

Ah crap - can't believe that such a great piece of kit can be written off for a plastic clip - cant the CD mechanism as a whole be replaced with a generic one or is that a case of keeping an eye out on Ebay for a scrap 9000? Damn shame.

I'm afraid the scrapper route is your only option.

You will find that the scrupulous resellers have stopped selling 9000's for this very reason. It is impossible to give a warranty on something where the cd holder could fail at any time so we just don't bother with selling them.

Meanwhile, there are a whole host of other sellers who..............

In the US we generally have good luck salvaging parts from our network of repair facilities. They tend to hoard old pieces for just such a reason. I'd be surprised if you couldn't find the part from an existing player.

Dave,all is not lost yet! When B&O could still supply a replacement mech for the '9000,it included a ring magnet "clamper"as a solution to the spring clip problem.You should be able to get a suitable ring magnet from a model shop(Bob's Models in Yardley,praps?)this simply clamps over the disc,and holds it in place perfectly well.You just lift it off when changing the disc.Heath Robinson,but effective.If you need help with B&O kit,I'm local(ish)to you.
