Speaker suggestions for a beomaster 6000

    Hello,

I was wondering if anyone can suggest a good speaker match (B&O preferably) for a type 2702 bm 6000. I was guessing a pair of S60 / 80 would work nicely. What are the redline speakers like as an alternative?

    Cheers,

    Matt

That is the quad one. S60s are recommended but P45s have the advantage of taking up less space! RLs would be fine but remember that the 6000 is not the most powerful amplifier in the range. S45-2s work well - I used four of them and and was pleased with the result. Not too big!

    Thanks Peter,

Excuse my ignorance, but the 'quad' thing, what is that? Does the system require 4 speakers? I bought the amp based on the beautiful design, but don't know much about it.

    Cheers,

It is the flat aluminium and perspex one? This is a quadraphonic receiver - it has four discrete channels. You can use it as a stereo one of course! But you will be only using two of the four channels.

    Hi there,

It's this one here, pictured in the foreground.

With four speakers in the background! Laughing

These are beautiful machines if a bit of a pig to service. The record player can play quad records though the cassette player is stereo.

Thanks Peter, much appreciated, the hunt is on for some speakers. I'll try and track down some S60s or similar, the trumpet stands look superb.

Do you know which speakers are pictured with the system in the photo above?

    Cheers,

They are S60s I think. The other recommended speakers for this system were the wall mounted panel speakers, the P50s. M70s were another if rather expensive option. I used a variety with mine - S45-2s are compact and good and I did use S60s and S75s for a while.

If you really want to go the whole quad, there were a number of reel to reel machines that could do it, the most recent was a Tascam machine, but a Sony TC 765 would do it too, big monster of a machine, break your back lifting it - but its dead easy to connect up.

You can still pick up quad reel to reel tapes and their performance is usually somewhat better than vinyl in terms of channel seperation - hardly surprising since there is no need to encode the channels. It can be quite impressive.

Shame B&O never had this facility on their reel to reels.
