    Refoaming retailers

    Hi all,

I'm about to start refoaming a set of alu CX50's I got for free from a colleague. I refoamed a pair of old JBL woofers for my colleague as a thank you and all went well. The parts for the JBL woofers were ordered from Speakerbits. They supplied a set of foam surrounds complete woth dustcaps, glue and shims.
Speakerbits have a very nice website and even though being located in Australia (me being in Norway) shipping is fast.

I have now received some foam rings for the CX50's I ordered from Goodhifi. Shipping was fast and as I found their website quite confusing I contacted them in order to get the right foam rings and dustcaps. They were also very fast in replying to my email enquiries.
I haven't quite started refoaming the CX50's but my first impression of the Goodhifi foam is that of a lesser quality than speakerbits. The foam feels harder and less flexible.
Also, they didn't supply any shims. Admittedly not a big problem but it still drags down on the overall experience.

I'll just cut some overhead projector sheets to size and use as shims.

If anyone else has experience with different foam retailers I and probably many others will be happy to hear about it.

    Re: Refoaming retailers

Now done refoaming the CX50's! Foam rings and dust caps replaced.

I used a cut up x-ray of my hand as shims Stick out tongue

The speakers are working perfectly using foam rings ordered from goodhifi. I haven't had time to listen to them properly yet, though.

Would still like to know about others' experience about foam. Surely someone here must have tried refoaming using foam from more than one place.
