    Penta 1's & BS3000

Would a set of Beolab Penta1's work with a Beosound 3000? Would I get full use of the displays?

The speakers will work with a standard stereo adaptor (Part no. 6270302 in the US), but you won't see any info on the displays.

Pretty sure they do.Wink Although they just don't seem the same without displays.

I wouldn't be surprised if you could make an adapter that would carry the display info from the beosound powerlink socket to the display input on the speakerlink.

    Re: Penta 1's & BS3000

The only thing that I've ever seen that comes close to that is a Signal Adaptor ... but that only has two pins on the speaker plug end which won't carry the datalink that shows the info on the displays.  If anyone has any ideas as to get around this I'd really be open to trying it out at home!

    Re: Penta 1's & BS3000

Well what I was thinking was to make a cable like this:  have a powerlink plug on one end, then take the two display signal wires from the powerlink and run just those two wires to a 4-pin speakerlink plug.  So the speakerlink plug would be sending the display info, but no sound.  Then from the powerlink plug again, run the line level sound signals into two RCA plugs.  So one end of the cable would be a powerlink plug, the other end would be a single speakerlink plug and two RCA plugs.  The speakerlink plug would only be carrying the display info then, no sound.  The sound would be going to the RCA plugs.

    Re: Penta 1's & BS3000

Well I have looked at the wiring diagrams for Powerlink and Speakerlink. As far as I can tell all four wires that are in Speakerlink are also present in Powerlink. So I wonder if you could make a conversion lead from Powerlink to Speakerlink? I would be very interested to hear if anyone has tried this and what sucess if any they had.

    Re: Penta 1's & BS3000

Hey Craig, Powerlink carries unamplified line level signals.  Speakerlink carries amplified signal, which gets attenuated and then re-amplified in the pentas.  So you can't go directly from powerlink (which is line level) into a speakerlink socket (which is expecting an amplified input).  You'd have to go from powerlink to RCA in, since these are both line level.  Then as I said you could still input the display info into the speakerlink sockets though.

First thing to then is see if I can get some Speakerlink plugs from my dealer. Then I will try to modify some Powerlink leads for the job.

What makes the Amps switch On/Off when you use the line level connections?

When the signal level rises above a threshold the amp switches on. 10 minutes after the signal falls below a threshold the amp switches off.

The answer to your next question is "I don't know" !!!!

Probably 'how quiet does it need to be before it switches off?

Today I was told that some of the later products don't have the data pins of the powerlink sockets connected to anything. Is this correct?

This sounds like what I want to do.  I want to connect my Beosystem 2500 (similar to overature, etc) to my Penta Speakers.  So what I'd have to do is take the DIN out from the BEOSYSTEM 2500 and convert it to RCA and then plug it into the Pentas?  Can the Beosystem 2500 provide the information to display on the screen of the pentas through the 2 connections on the 4 pin connection of speakerlink?  I guess I'd like to know exactly how to hook up these speakers to my Beosystem.

    Re: Penta 1's & BS3000

probably better to sell your BL Penta Mk1's and buy the Penta MK2's, or MK3's - as the Powerlink connectors suit the BS3000 and BS2500 models better

In fact all the BC2300 family have powerlink except for the quirky named "Master Panel AV 9000" which only has Masterlink ( usually connected back to a Beosystem AV 9000)
