I was doing the final adjusments for my Beogram 6000 (the old one) today, and found a loose spring near the transformer. It's a rather soft coil spring, about 6 mm in diameter and 10 mm long. I couldn't see any obvious place for it and the turntable is working fine - does this sound like it has been accidentally dropped inside the machine and doesn't belong there at all?

Well, no sweat - I leafed through the entire service manual and couldn't find such a spring anywhere. I'll keep it in guarantene for a month or two, then throw it away if I still don't know where it came from Glad it didn't short out anything flying around in the insides...

Rings no bell here.

Yes i know the spring you mean, as both my 4002 and my 6000 had the same spring floating around inside when i bought them. looked through every service manual i had but cant find it anywhere. The only thing i can think of it being for is something to do with the screws that hold the lid on as both my beograms came without the lid attached.

That makes perfect sense! One of the lid screws was missing in my machine (luckily, not the lug - I replaced both screws with regular Phillips head screws, easier to work with since you can't see them). Perhaps the spring is supposed to push the lid holder lug up so the lid is easier to install, or just to keep it from rattling around when they are loose?

Maybe I'll list it on eBay as a genuine vintage B&O spring  

If it's skinnier-say 3mm-then it's the spring that goes thru the plinth, establishing a ground between the chassis and the brushed aluminum surrounding the platter. As I recall, it's captive ther until the double sided tape fails. It terminates by butting against the threaded insert in the plinth where the frt 4mm Philips screw goes that keeps the unit closed.

I'm continuing an age old topic as I can now confirm what I suspected. I had a 4004 open, and it still had these springs where they are supposed to be - they are indeed under the lugs that keep the lid in place. So when the lid screws are loose, the springs push the lugs up so you don't need two screwdrivers and four hands to conveniently slide the lid under them

Apparently the springs get lost the first time somebody who doesn't know about their presence completely unscrews the things...

No truant mystery spring in my most recent BG4000 acquisition. But I found a loose bolt, a needle brush (!) and a coin inside it, all ready to interject themselves where they shouldn't. I'm guessing the coin has been there quite a while, going by its date.

Haven't figured out where that bolt belongs yet.

I am not so sure . Yes there are the sprung lugs, and these are pretty obvious, but I wonder if it could be similar to the spring on the 8000 which seems to earth the aluminium top plate. No idea where it goes though!! The original spring seems not quite like the srings for the lugs.
