    Beolab 3000. Good deal?

    Hello all!

I quite probably have the opportunity to buy a pair of Beolab 3000 (working condition, no foam rot, etc.) for $200.  I think I'll get one RL60 thrown in to sweeten the deal as well.

To all of your knowledge, is that a good deal?  Are the 3000s rare enough, and is that a good enough price, to pay $200?  I'm on a rather tight collegiate budget, and if you all think that I could someday get a better deal, perhaps I'd pass.

Just thought I'd pass it by all of you before I do anything.

     Thanks!

This is a fantastic deal. Do it quick before the seller changes his mind.

    UPDATE: Beolab 3000. Good deal?

Bought them!  200 dollars.  Cosmetically, they were dusty and dirty and smelled like cat, basement, or some combination of the two.

After cleaning them up, there's about one pin-head sized ding in the aluminum, and a few scratches that I'm pretty sure I can buff out.  (Any idea as to what would buff the metal the best?)

Had to throw out the fabric on the speaker grills.  Too much cat hair to remove, and smelled an awful lot like a cat (& I'm no cat fan).  Gonna redo the grills this weekend, I think.

NOW: to test them, what do I need?  I have a Beosystem 5500, which I THINK just runs passive speakers, right?  How would I get these hooked up to my stereo to test the sound?

Thanks again guys for all your help & for your great responses!

Re: UPDATE: Beolab 3000. Good deal?

    Hi Aaron, congratulations !

You can connect the Beolab 3000 to Beosystem 5500 via SpeakerLink.

    ************************* AUDIO SYSTEM SETUP **************************

    Beosystem 5500
    Beolab 3000

    Connection Audio

Connect the Beolab to the SPEAKERS 1 socket on the audio
master using a Speaker Link cable.

    Setting switches on the Beolab

Set the INPUT LEVEL switch to position (3 lines).
Set the AUDIO/VIDEO/OFF switch to position AUDIO.
Set the MODE switch to position A.
(Limited readout on the Beolab display. No indication of track, mute,
    sound and of video sources)

    Enjoy your new speakers !

Congrats on your purchase, that's a real bargain !! beautifull and very good speakers for so little money........... a pity you own a 5500 set [the last one without powerlink-connection] for now you can not read the display's of the BL3000 [ I really love the fact that I can read the source, the tracknumber and soundlevel on my BL4500's and penta's ] but the sound is just as good through speakerlink ; enjoy them !!!
