Hi andy! It has been like that since I got the avant a couple of weeks ago. I tried programming in a position 2 in the menu.

Menu Set up Stand Change the number 1 to a 0 Move the telly to where you want it in standby (manually if you like) Go Move the Avant to a totally different position then switch it off. Does it park now? Andy T.

I have tried this, and it does not seem to work. I will try again when I get home today.

nope, it does not. i have also tested the position sensing resistor in the stand, and it works flawlessly. :S Could it be that the function to return to standby position is turned off?

After some testing, it turns out that the stand rotates a couple of degrees left when i push 1 or 0 on the remote. At one point i had it turning about ten degrees right when i pushed 2, but after some more menufiddling it stopped.

What the...? I was about to try what Keith suggested when I realized that the damn thing wouldn't turn on at all! No red dot, no reacting to commands from the remote, no reaction when pushing the buttons on the top of the screen. I have made sure the on-off-button is in the on position. Can I have tripped a circuit breaker when I pulled the cord earlier today? Or could it be that the memory-problem has gotten worse and affected the whole system?

If you do not have the "Standby" red dot, then nothing will work. The first thing to check is the 3.15 amp fuse on PCB60 (Mains distribution) and then we can go from there. Are you sure that you have not done anything else since it was last working ? As the stand control module uses the +14 volts, it could now have failed in a more solid way and pulling the power line down, causing an over-current detection to shutdown the power supply. Also, what is the Type number of your AVANT. Its on the base of the TV

The type number is 8111. Avant 28 VCR. I watched tv last night, and a little bit this morning. No problems. The fuse is ok. I tried disconnecting the stand control module, but no change.

Well, we must assuming the AVANT has developed another fault not related to the stand issue. The problem is going to be caused by either:- - A component failure, normal short circuit which has caused the Power Supply protection circuit to cut in to stop damage to the TV
- A fault on PCB60 mains distribution located at the bottom left hand side
If you are not a technical person, then this is a job for a good TV repair shop or your B&O dealer. If, however you are a technical person with electronics/tv background with at least a multi-meter, then I will walk you through some actions you can take.

I'm familiar with electronics, not so much tv's but try me. :)

We first need to establish if the situation is because of an actual power supply failure or an overload somewhere in the TV which is shutting down the power supply through the overload protection. This is best done at the connectors on the power supply board and below is a block diagram showing the connectors involved. Check the power at P46 between pins 1 & 2, be very careful
The AVANT uses a Switched Mode Power Supply which means the heart of it is a 32khz ramp oscillator which is stopped if the overload protection circuit detects an overload. Without the oscillator running the 8 volt Standby voltage is not generated and is why your red standby light is not on.

What the.... Plugged the set back together (well, some of it anyway, left out the VCR and powerlink module) and the standby light is back on. :) Will try to assemble the rest. Maybe it just was a loose connector?

I'm back to it being dead again. I turned it off again after it turned on, because i was concerned about all the hanging wires on the back. When everything was connected, it would not turn on. Problem now is that i can't seem to replicate what I did to make it work!

Hmm. Tried again now, and it went to stand by. Pulled the plug, and replaced it. Nothing, back to dead.

Well, it certainly sounds like you have a bad connection somewhere, which to be honest is good because you want to be sure you have found the problem. Given the problems you have encountered it may well turn out to be something like a "dry" solder joint. Before we start fault finding the logical way, I suggest you visually review the printed circuit boards for any dry joints, if that turns up nothing then we need to measure the various voltages out of the power supply as follows:- - The voltage at C70 on PCB4 must exceed approx. 300 volts
- The power supply at C8 should be approx 7 Volts during start-up. If it is less, the power-supply unit will not start up

Thanks for all your help this far Keith! I'm going to the in-laws for the weekend and won't be able to work any more on it until Sunday evening. I will check for dry joints then.
