    Beocord V8000 problems

    Hi:

I am attempting to isolate a problem on one of these machines. Basicly I think there is an issue with the power supply as there is not enough power getting to the machine for the display to light-up or for the tape mechanism to work. When I have it open I notice a repetitive squeaking noise coming from the power supply (I think). Sometimes however, when you turn it on for a fleeting second it makes the noise you would expect it to make if it was going to accept a tape but then goes back to squeaking.

I know these things are ten-a-penny these days. However, if there is an easy fix or it is glaringly obvious what this is I would like to get it done.

    Thanks

    Graham

Change the small caps on the primary side of the coil 1uF to 47uF, thats a start, sounds like a typical swish mode failure...

    Hi:

Thanks for your help, I am pretty bad at soldering, thus I would prefer to change the associated board in its entirety - is this possible? As I do not have the circuit diagram at the moment (will upgrade membership soon) I cannot tell if that is a stupid question.

    Thanks

    Hi:

Oh sorry, do you mean the power supply? As you can tell my electronics knowledge is quite limited and as a result I really do not want to mess around with that. Can I just take the whole power supply board out and put a new one in?

    Thanks

Yes it's possible to change the power supply if it's still available. or you can get a local repair man to fix it. it's a Phillips so no problem for him.

    Hi:

Thanks for all your help. I don't suppose you know which Philips unit this power supply would be in - I guess I could get a Philips machine off of Ebay for next to nothing.

Would I be wrong in asuming the board that the supply is mounted on will be uniform accross the Philips machine and the B&O one I am trying to sort out.

    Thanks

The power supply PCB should be around £40 from B&O.

    Thanks:

Their website is a nightmare to navigate. Do I have to go to a B&O store? Also will they sell me the part as I am a "civillian"? Surely it would be in their best interest to force me to pay them to fix it?

    Thanks

    Hi:

I have just realised that the recorder I was refering to is/was a Beocord 6000 and not 8000. Are the parts still available or the same?

Thanks and sorry for the confusion.
