What I miss most from the old Beoworld

I thought I'd kick this post off as an opportunity for feedback on the new vs old Beoworld. In general the new Beoworld is vastly superiour in terms of reliability, look and feel and functionality but there are one or two things that I believe should be up for consideration in subsequent releases. Given that we're all part of this brave new beoworld, I thought it only right that we all share our thoughts with the entire community on what could be improved.

    Here's my list:

    -  I truly miss the ability to browse all products alphabetically in just 3 pages. The new functionality we have is there to search a product and there's even a browse option ... but it's 22 pages long at the moment. Is there any possibility to get back the very simple product overview list that I found so amazingly quick and easy to use? Just to put things into context, the old list was far more superiour to anything on any other website I've seen. No messy 'categories' to try and squeeze things into like on 'beocentral' which tends to miss items because they fall between categories, and no database search options either ... just the list in brief. This is my wish - all products to fit on 3 scrollable pages Smile

    -  I miss a link to the beotech website. I'm fairly sure there was a link from the old beoworld but I've had a quick glance through and can find nothing on the new beoworld. Maybe an extra entry on the links section would cover most needs.

    -  Finally I'm missing any content on the FAQ for B&O Literature and Manuals. I can generally get to the information by going a different route but it seems odd to have an FAQ with no answer. My own personal preference here would be to see a list of all available literature but please not hundreds of pages long. 3-4 pages at most.

Now in true community spirit I'm opening this up for others to contribute. I would strongly urge people not to use this as a place to rant and scream but merely to provide constructive feedback.

     Many thanks

     Peter

The bit from the old forum that used to show who else was currently reading the same topic as you was a nice touch on the old forum.

Also a working photo gallery !! Stick out tongue

I think our moderators are working on some of these issues. All we have to be is patient.

I agree with Peter that the three page alphabetical listing was delightfully easy to navigate, if you were unfamiliar with B&O's product naming system. Perhaps there could be an option for both a product search and an alphabetical listing to be added at a later date.

Also, I miss being able to see the author of a thread from the forum contents page. Apart from these differences, I think the new website design is excellent.

Not entirely sure what you mean.. have you noticed the drop-down boxes to get to a specific area? If you are looking for speakers for instance, you can just use the drop-down boxes until you reach 'speakers' then hit browse!  To get to 22 pages, you are hitting "browse all products" i think...

We will be hosting BeoTech on a different (and more reliable) server, and as soon as this is done, we will create a link of course.

This is because we don't yet have any!  Are there any FAQ's you think should be in there? If so, please let us know, and we will put them on. This is a site run by its members, for the members - so any contributions are always welcome.

Re: What I miss most from the old Beoworld

    Hi Lee,

     Thanks for your response.

On the first point about browsing all products, Yes I am familiar with the new categories .... but I still found the old 3 page alphabetical listing much handier to use compared to the new categories. The simplicity of it made it incredibly easy to navigate and in many cases drew my eye to other products in the listing. Let me stress again I don't want to detract anything from the new layout but this particular page/layout/display format from the old site was in constant use by me whereas I find the new pages cumbersome in comparison. Please do consider this for the next release as I find it quite a loss. The new categories just don't do it for me. I like to browse all products.

Great news about the BeoTech website!! Thank you and I look forward to seeing the next www.Beo installment Smile

Finally on the FAQ piece, could you not host a list of the manuals under this FAQ? If it were possible to re-create the 3 page alphabetical product listing, it would also be very handy to display a listing of the available literature directly under the FAQ B&O Literature and Manuals option. In the meantime if you're looking for items to add to the FAQ, what about re-stating the 'You don't have the user manual I'm looking for. How can I request it?' question under this section with a link to the enquiries form?

I do hope you find this of help.

    Cheers

     Peter

I probably can do a listing of manuals but be aware that there are 1423 of them at present. I am expecting more to be added as I scan them and people send me more. At present they are named in my own inimitable system and as I had to rename them once, I am not planning to do them again! The format is for instance for the Beogram 4002 user manual ; BG4002_user-eng.pdf  which means it is the Beogram 4002 user manual in English in pdf format! Is that acceptable?

Sorry about the photo section. This was actually working when we beta tested but we discovered that when you posted photos that you also had the ability to edit other people's and also change the forum settings which could cause the system to crash. As we are desperate to avoid the downtime of the last incarnation of the forum, it was decided to wait till we could talk to the developers and get past this. The meeting is on Tuesday!

Hi Peter. I've just this second sent Lee a message which might have a couple of ideas worth putting to the developers. I just hope it got to him on time.

Thanks again for your efforts on the site. I know you're doing all the right things to keep it going and I'm happy to provide input, give ideas or even chip in with some development where needed.

    Cheers

Yes, me too! I found the old product finder very effective. To be honest, I have not even found the new one from the Home screen yet! (*) mcrack (*) I found it now. The page needed to be scrolled to see the links at its foot. I think that was not necessary before either. The new search capabilities are neat for sure, but still the plain list was a good thing in its own right. Maybe it can be additionally put back again.
