Amazed by sound repoduction of Beogram CD 7000

I have been listening to my cd's using the Beogram CD 7000 that I bought two weeks ago, using Beolab 1's and headphones. I am amazed by the quality and purity of the reproduction of this 13 year old player. I have a BeoSound 9000 Mark III, but the oldie 7000 blows that away. The difference is even bigger when listening through headphones. The 7000 is so detailed, I hear instuments and details I have never heared before. How can a 13 year old CD player beat a new BeoSound. What is the technical difference between these two machines?

Hi, technically speaking, the BeoGram CD 7000 was the best CD player ever made by B&O, much more performant than anything released after the BeoCenter 2500/2300.

Better S/N ratio (110 dB vs 100/101 dB on BS9000), better channel separation (same as S/N specs!), less distortion, a 16-bit filter instead of 1bit, better frequency response ( 3Hz - 20KHz within +-0.3 dB, vs. today's 20 Hz- 20 KHz within +-1 dB).

It also was a separate unit..with its own chassis, power, pre-amplifiers and 6.35 kg of stability..and a digital audio output that only BS9000 offers nowadays among all BeoSounds!

And I love the speed of the loading tray,I find that amazing and so impressive! I wish the newer DVD players were that quick in opening.

    Reunion Island is greeting you!

I haven't sat and scrutinized the reproduction but I will say that my BeoGram 6500 CD player sounds every bit as good as my BeoSound 9000 when playing through the BS or the BM6500.  The one thing I appreciate about both systems, is consistent sound quality.

Is the difference with your really noticeable?  Are you connecting the BG to the BS's AUX port?

I have two Beogram CD7000s, one with my white 7000 system I won in the prize draw, and one that I run through my old Beolab 5000 and  it's assosiated speakers.
The quality of sound I get from the Beovox 5000s and cubes from the CD is absolutely stunning!

The TV/AUX on the Beosystem 7000 is connected to the AUX of the BeoSound 9000, which is linked to the Beovision 7-40 and Beolab's 1/Beolab's 6000.  When I use headphones, I plug them into the Beomaster 7000 directly. The difference is the biggest when I listen through headphones.

I think many people would be similarly amazed by the sound from a quality CD player, a well recorded disc and listening through quality headphones. Especially if compressed MP3 tracks are the normal listening experience!

Quality headphones can be truly mind blowing in revealing sounds and instruments unheard on even previously regularly listened-to material.

The DAC in this line of CD players was a particularly well thought of one - the Philips TDA1541A. These are still sought after - the A after the number was used for selected products. There was some rumours that some B&O CD players used the P model but both of mine have had the A. Scroll down in the article attached to the link, and there is a picture of the innards of a CD5500.

The CD5500 is probably even better as it has a better motor for the CD drive. Cannot tell the difference myself! Laughing
