Wireless 1 Probs with BL3500 and BS4 (New Wireless 1 Firmware)

    Hello All.

I am unable to get by BS4 and BL3500 to communicate via the Wireless 1's I own.

    I have:

BL3500 (V 2.0 - dealer said that would be ok)

    BS4

Wireless 1 (FW 2.03a) - Connected to each by ML cable ONLY (no PL, IR, etc)

On a direct ML-ML connection, my BS4 and BL3500 comunicate perfectly.

When connected via Wireless 1, I can get the clock to sync (for example) and the "all off" command (holding down the red dot on my Beo4 for 3 secs) to work (so I know there is SOME communication between the two units), however it seems that I cannot bring the Wireless 1's out of standby as when I press Radio, CD, or A. Mem on my Beo4 in the remote room, my BL3500 clicks on and after 3 or 4 seconds clicks off.  Neither Wireless 1 unit light goes green.

The rooms are basically a wall away and there is zero interference in this building.

Can someone please help?  I can't drill holes here for a number of reasons (which include renting as this is a corporate apt.)

    Thanks!

I believe the 3500 needs both a MasterLink and a PowerLink cable to the Wireless station to work correctly...

The Microprocessor (PCB3) must have version 3.0 and powerlink to work with with wireless correctly. That is why B&O produced a new version of the Beolab 3500.

Can I get the upgraded firmware for the BL3500?  I already have 2.0 and the newest according to the cut-and-paste below is 2.1.  Were you refering to v 3.0 of something else?

Do you know the estimated cost?  Can it be preformed onsite?

Your bl3500 has to be connected with PL MK2 and a Ir EYE and no ML to work.

I thought the new software allowed for the speaker to be connected with only a ML cable?

Re: Wireless 1 Probs with BL3500 and BS4 (New Wireless 1 Firmware)

Let me give you an overview of Beolab 3500 and Beolink Wireless.

First the Beolab 3500 has two variations:-

    1. LCS9000 later to become the Beolab 3500 Mark I which has MCL (Master Control Link) and ML (Masterlink) but NOT Powerlink and has a latest software version of 2.1. You can see the FAQ HERE on how to upgrade to version 2.1 software. The LCS9000 and the Beolab 3500 Mark I CANNOT be used with the Beolink Wireless
    2. Beolab 3500 Mark II was introduced to be linked with the Beolink Wireless, but initially could only be used via the Powerlink, but subsequently was able to be used in a fully Masterlink configuration subject to some product restrictions. The latest version of the software in the Beolab 3500 is version 3.1

The Beolink Wireless requires version 2.0 or above for full Masterlink capability and the latest version is version 2.1

You say that your Beolab 3500 has software version 2.0 which means it is a Beolab 3500 Mark I which also means it will not work.

    Bummer.  That's unfourtunate.

Will a dealer swap a MKI got a MKII?

So I gather it won't work at all (even with an IR eye and PL cable?)

    You are correct.

A dealer may accept your Mark I version as a trade-in for the current version.

    Update

Let my dealer know the situation.

They spoke with B&O Tech Support who claimed that a ML cable should work fine on a BL3500 with SW version 2.00.

They told the dealer to give me instructions on how to reset the Wireless 1 units, as they weren't after the software update.

I know you guys are probably right but I guess I have to hop through the hoops first.

I will keep ya'll in the loop.
