    BeoLab 4 as rear speakers?

I'm planning to add my rear speakers in 5.1 setup. While BL4000 is my choice I would be interested to hear if  BeoLab 4 are suitable at all?

I have BeoLab 8000 + BL2 in front. My rear speakers will be really close to seating/viewing  position.
Do you think they will do ok?

    Thank you

They will be fine though I would personally get Beolab 4000s second hand rather than these as I think the 4000 much better. Rear speakers do not actually get that much information sent to them though and if that will be their sole purpose, I can see the attraction. 4000s would allow you to use them in another room at a later date if you wished. Beolab 4s are more suited to use with a computer or in a link room for background music. Or as a rear speaker.

BL4000 would sure be a better choice, but I have listened extensively to a similar setup at my dealer's BL7-4; BL8000; BL4 witch were standing very close to the viewer's ears. The sound was quite good, but the rears tend to be to loud compared to the fronts, due to the closeness of the ear to the speaker. I could live with BL4s as rears.

After some listening last week, I really can't see why B&O makes the BL4's.. Even as rear speakers, my ears would've been tired after a short period of time.

    Go for the BL3's Smile

    BeoVox 5000 - BL 8000 - Sonos ZP100 & ZP80. I think I'm craving for the BL3's and another ZP80!

I believe ....mr anders(son) has the setup of BL8000, BL2 and BL3 as rears, so he will be able to comment on what that is like. I would go for BL 4000 myself, cracking speakers for the money. Will your rears be wall mounted or on floor stands? I prefer the look of BL3's on floor stands than BL4000 tbh.

I plan on mounting rears on the wall.

Re: BeoLab 4 as rear speakers?

If you go for the BL4s don't ever play the Transformers movie or Jean Michel Jarré in China concert. Those labs just can't do the job. I would choose the BL4000's. However the best choice in my opinion will be BL3's. If you wall mount them they have the advantage that you can direct the speaker towards the ears of the listeners. There is a member in the spanish forum (Luigi) that have BL8000 as fronts, BL2 and BL3's as rears, oriented to the main listening position and down tilted in a not so big living room with extraordinary results. Besides, BL3's look gorgeous wall mounted. Obvioulsy, they are more expensive...
