    Interesting observation on current Beolabs

I noticed today that there are five grooves on the back of the Beolab 5. I then went on the internet to look at the other Bang & Olufsen speakers and i noticed that the Beolab 9's have a similar correlation, there are nine grooves!

I suppose this reinforces the attention to detail the designers pay to these awesome products.

    I'm in love!

Well is it a coincidence? Or a new design idea?

I can not wait to see what they replace the iconic, organ-pipe shaped, Beolab 8000 with...

Do B&O now name their speakers after the heat sinks, or vice-versa?

    Hmm.

i don't think so. it's just coincidence. after all, there are no 4000's grilles on the back of beolab 4000's.

    Rombeek:

Are the Beoloab 8000's beiing replaced in the near future?!

We have had this discussion many times on the old forum. It is sure, that one day, B&O has to replace such icons as BL6000 and BL8000 ( and also the BL4000). But I think it will take some years, as the 6000s and the 8000s still are the best  selling speakers in the range. The advantage that B&O had when they launched the column speakers was that they were the first and only one who could produce such good speakers in such a shape. But times have changed. Other companies do the same thing, but not at the same level IMO.

I think that B&O will wait to see how the reception and the sells of the BL9 is. If it goes on like it does for the moment, i think it could be possible that they discontinue the column speakers. But at the moment, there is no reason to do so.

If you compare the price and the power of BL3 and BL8000, you could think that the 3s were thought to replace the 8000s, but then B&O changed their opinion...??? If B&O discontiues the 8000s, I think they need to produce something like the BL9, but at a lower price level.

Re: Interesting observation on current Beolabs

Ideally the replacement should be even more beautiful after all this is B&O we're talking about, and lets face it, the beolab 9 sometimes looks like a couple of hunching and overweight little ladies (with worderful voices mind you).

    :-D

The 4000s have just been replaced - by the 4000s Mk2! ICE amplifiers!

and by upgrading current product line - it tells to me that they won't replace, for example beolab 4000, any day soon. why upgrade, if there's slight thought of replacement product.

look at beolab 4000. do you think it looks old or out-dated? it goes so well with beocenter 2 for example. and bc2 is new product.

young people want new and they want it fast. i'm old people. i don't want such a design classics like beolab 4000, 6000 and 8000's to be replaced, ever. how many times you have to invent/discover a speaker anyway, if materials you use for it are still pretty much the same.

Re: Interesting observation on current Beolabs

I agree, timeless design is an attribute that the 90s generation of B&O loudspeaker has all over... and I can still see myself looking at my 8000s or 5000s and thinking damn they are still good looking.. shame about the wife!!!

However with the BL9, and I have to say I LOVE the look of these speakers now.. will probably date in comparison looks wise... they have that BMW thing about them in that you either love them or hate them whereas the 8000s have drawn universal acclaim in the looks department and performance wise may slighlty be biased as a result... in comparison the 9s will probably win hands down on the performance but falter on looks which is a shame..
