Re: BeoVision 8 observations and questions about how to hook up devices

    Soundproof,

My dealer is having trouble finding the smaller component to Scart and RCA to Scart converters.  Do you happen to know where I can get the ones that you pictured in your post?

I've gone on the website of a company called Gefen, but for some reason, I'm getting a little confused about what type of converter I need.  I think it needs to be a "component to Scart" input adapter and a "RCA to Scart" input adapter, but some of the products I'm finding make the whole input / output thing a little confusing.

Has anyone else tried hooking a Scart adapter to the BV8 to input a STB or a DVD player?  JK1002?

Also, I asked about getting the same B&O Infra-red cable that came with the BV8 so that I can control two components with the IR blaster, but my dealer said that they can't get the B&O brand.  Do you happen to know how I can get the same IR cord model that came with my BV8?

    TIA,

    Hi Mark,

I have only connected my BC2 through scart and the Apple TV through HDMI. I had briefly a Wii connected through the camera connection on the left side. The BC2 is linked through the master link module that provides an additional scart port.

I have the launch document that was given to the dealers. It says when using the component input AV2 you must use the SCART AV2 for audio from that source. They have a special RCA adapter for that. 6270672 is the part number. I think I got that cable here from my dealer. It has a scart plug on one end, 6 feet of thick cable and then 3 cinch plugs and an svhs on the other end. I am guessing 2 of the cinch are for audio, 1 is for video.

So you should get that to make the audio connection, and then connect your STB through component on AV2.

If your dealer can't help, I would simply look at amazon.co.uk and have it send from there. I do  that all the time, usually takes 5 to 7 days after they ship until the package is here. I never had custom problems even though I had packages in excess of 150$. It will be much cheaper then buying something here, and you can deduct 20% tax of the price that you see on the website.

    Hope this helps.

    @Bingo

The trouble with the HDMI switcher is, that we like to control STB and Apple TV through the STBc. When using a switcher, only 1 device can receive the IR signals. The TV does only allow 1 source with HDMI in the menus. So that is why I think one should use both, component and hdmi rather then hdmi switcher.

I thought with the HDMI-CEC standard that there won't be any problem at all!!

The B&O TVs control external devices trough IR not through hdmi. And with the BV8, you can only assign one source to the HDMI port. So controlling a STB and an apple TV while both are connected to the singled HDMI port is a no.

To be honest, it is very old fashioned and unwise giving the Beovision 8 only 1 HDMI input. You payed around 3000 euro's for that!!!! . Now again the next sample that constumers pay the price for the poor input configuration B&O gives for the money. One of the issues why things go so bad in my opinion.

I agree with that. But then again I don't care. I connect my DVD through scart, Apple TV through HDMI and if ever required I would link the STB for cable to component. The BS9000 I have also has one AUX and I dealt with that even though it was annoying at times.

Re: BeoVision 8 observations and questions about how to hook up devices

    JK1002 and Bingo,

    Thank you both very much.

JK, as I'd prefer to stick with the B&O adapters (or, at least, the B&O recommended adapters), I'll ask my dealer about ordering that specific part number.  You don't happen to have the B&O part # for the infra-red cord that came with the BV8?  My dealer is going to order a third party IR cord, but I'd like keeping the two IR cords the same.

Bingo, I couldn't agree with you more about the BV8's lack of inputs.  I purchased the TV knowing this, but I thought the dealer would help with figuring out how to utilize the scart inputs to hook up American things (like an STB), but I've been getting most of my info on BeoWorld.  If B&O is going to hinder a US product in such a way (no inherent tuner, no USA connectors except for HDMI and a very hindered component input), they ought to at least include adapters or make their dealers prepared to have adapters on hand.  As it stands now, I've had to pester the Beoworld community for answers about how to hook this TV up, I'm still waiting to get the required adapters, and (here's the best part) I've yet to actually use my new TV despite owning it for over a week.

    Thank you guys again,

    Mark D

    One other thing:

Does anyone have advice about where I could get a very used, but working BC2 that's been heavily discounted?

The last thing I want to do is spend a bunch of money on a B&O DVD player that I consider overpriced and underperforming ($4K for a DVD player without HDMI, only 480i, etc.), but that player would at least give me DVD and CD source that I could control through a scart socket with my Beo 4.

The BC on ebay typically go for around 2500$. Thing is when they show up (rare) they are usually MK1 and those are very funny to operate.

There was a minor upgrade to the head unit done recently, it gives now audible feedback when you push a button. In the US they are still selling through the old inventory so your dealer might give you a deal. I doubt though you get one for under 4K, they increased prices to 4900$ including remote recently.

    Cheers

If any of you would like to get any of the SCART adaptors please let me know. I have them all in stock. Made by B&O too, not third party.

I wonder if B&O realise enough that people already payed an above average amount of money for a 32 inch LCD television. But for that huge amount of money,  the customer has to be almost a magician to get al the inputs right. Where LCD televisions for less money have at least 3 HDMI inputs now, B&O let you struggle for more money!!!   I really don't understand them in Struer.

I think B&O is to much locked up in their own world, compare the facilities with other models from their own brand and that is wrong. They must not think, oh, If you want more HDMI inputs, you must buy the much more expensive Beovison 7 or plasma. No they need to compare more what the other brands in the world offer for that amount of money. That will make every B&O model in their range much more accessible and more atractive as an alternative for some other brand.

Alex, Is there actually enough room in the connection well for a scart adapter with phono audio cables connected to it when you try to close the back panel? And what about if you had a scart in AV1, is there room for it with the adapter in AV2? It's just I don't know if there'll be room for my SKY scart and adapter for the audio on my Nintendo Wii component cable. Tried it today on my parents BV8-26 and it didn't look like they'd fit, I was wondering if B&O had a solution to actually make this all possible to connect up with there own cables and adapters. Better to find out now before I get my BV 8-32 than after....

    Thanks, Robert.
