    RL 45.2's vs RL 6000's

was just wondering people's opinions on these two speakers.

I currently use a pair of RL45.2's on B&O floorstands which i have modified (to tilt the speakers upwards by a couple of degrees so that the tweeters aren't pointing at my knees) - i really love them and they are in great condition for their age - although they do look quite dated with the dull grey paint the sound seems to suit my tastes in music which are pretty varied.

I just bought a pair of RL6000's from Lifestyle AV on ebay for a very good price and these look just that little bit better and more up to date(looks in the photos like piano black backs instead of the grey and silver trim instead of the red line)

I was curious to know if i could expect any real sound improvement with the new set since the dimensions are almost the same - or would i really need a set of RL140's or 7000's to notice any improvement in sound quality. (with my wedding coming up in July this year i'll not be buying any active speakers any time soon!)

also do the RL 6000's suffer from foam rot? - i've never taken off the frets on my 45.2's as they have always sounded fine to me. my cx50's are completely shot however.

Re: RL 45.2's vs RL 6000's

    I've never heard the RL6000's but I have owned RL45.2's & 60.2's. I believe the 60.2's were the forerunner to the 6000's.

The 60.2's were a far better speaker of the 2, much more rounded in all areas especially the bass wher the 45.2's were a bit light for me, same dimensions except the cabinet bodies which were deeper.

Of course the RL140's are in a different league sound wise but are MASSIVE, the wife made be get shot of mine - and rightly so to be honest.

I'm not sure about the foam rot issue, I've heard the RL's had rubber surrounds fitted from the 45.2's onwards but I've never actually checked myself.

thanks Chris - thats great news then! ... I think i'd get murdered also if i'd bought a pair of 140's.

i have to say that i've never thought the RL45.2's were particularly light on bass though - maybe i'll change my mind when i hear the new ones.

Have to say i'm quite excited about getting the new speakers now!

I too have had a couple of pairs of 60.2s. I must confess to being underwhelmed by them - they sounded muddy. However once the capacitors in the crossover where replaced, they were considerably better. The drivers in both of mine were fine.

Re: RL 45.2's vs RL 6000's

RL 45.2's were my first ever Beovox speakers and I too thought they were excellent until I got the 60.2's which are really another notch up from them.

You'll love 'em to bits if you like the 45's.

As with all speakers though, it is very subjective as Peter has pointed out.

well big thanks to the Lifestyle AV team, the speakers have already arrived (and in their original box too) - haven't taken them out yet but i'm sure they will be exactly as described (in fact probably better going by previous experience)

fantastic service - thats almost next day delivery on the item!
