BEO5
Battery operated. Standby time 10-12 days. Uses charging stand. High resolution touch sensitive screen Preset by the dealer for optimal use USB connection Bol is aluminium Cover LCD is plastic Price estimate 400-500 Euro One way Release date approx. August 2007 Operates non-B&O ir controlled items; If you can get the IR codes for a device you (or rather the dealer) can programe the Beo5. On the screen you can have a logo for each TV channel instead of the number. You can also add 3rd party products via the PUC directly into the remote. It is fully customizable.
Quote: Roger discussing Beomedia 1 and briefly mentions the Beo5 The not-so-good part is the operation via my BeoCenter 2 or in a link room via Beo4 only. Sure, the lady that tells me I have selected "album" is nice enough - but finding a special album or song is a bothersome process. The Beo5 has the potential to correct this, but you may find that the current version (which is about to be released in the EU) may be missing the functionality some of you may have seen on pre-production versions. This will hopefully be corrected/updated/fixed very soon. Unquote

Why is the configuration dealer only. I understand most people don't get into it, but there should at least be an option. I have to believe that at some point we'll have available software for consumer configuration. The 3rd party IR support is exciting and a recognition on B&O's part that they cannot supply 100% of our toys.

Was the cost mentioned at all? Or did they not say. Craig

The dealer will configure your BEO5 so you can control ALL your tech stuf. You can learn (if you like) to do it your self. In case you add a new item i.e. blue-ray DVD to your system.

Craig: Was the cost mentioned at all? Or did they not say. Craig B&O hadn't set the price yet, but gave an estimate. You can get the BEO5 instead of the BEO4 with your new TV. The price difference must be paid ofcourse...

Thanks for the link. Don't think I like the looks of the Beo 5.... Think I still want the Beo 4 with my new BV 7.

Have you had a chance to see how the menu are working?
Did you get an explaination of the different keys?
Is it touch screen?
In the photos there is a Room indication, how do you change from a room to another room setting?

peria: So the software will be available to consumers? I don't suppose this will cost extra?
The remote needs a new software update of some kind. Like when you buy a digital reciever and you want to control it with your BEO4 and BV7 (as in my situation). The BV7 was sw updated to be able to control the digital reciever.

Yes we all fiddled around with the BEO5. Some even managed to control the Beocenter 8500, that was in the restaurant. (cassette, CD, radio) The keys on the LCD are from left to right: visualize numbers 0-9 return previous menu select theme
The theme setting will enable you to visualize those buttons that are important in this theme (or room). You can select other themes if you like.

Rombeek: What brand is your digital receiver? I have a panasonic which isn't sold anymore... Do you know if it is also supported? Samsung 9401R
Only one that can help you out is the B&O dealer. You could try to set it up your self. If you're lucky the panasonic is in the receiver list.

I find it strange that it is the remote that emits the emulated signal, as this will not work from a link room. It would be better if the signal could be emitted from the STB-C.
Have they said anything about that?

There was an indication of a near future (no current products thopugh) with two-way, which I find very appealing. I think it is quite easy to operate and a intuitive menu, though it probably take days to lean every feature. I like what Rie said "It's like a Kings scepter, you have total control when it is in your hand." I just felt so good, a true must-have. So: GIVE ME 5!!!
Living room: BV7-40 mkIV + V8000, BL5, BL3, BM1 and BS9000. Bedroom: MX3000 and BL4500 on MCL2-AV. Around: PentaIII, CX100 and MCX35 on ML/MCL + MCL2-A, BeoPort and BL4 on ML, BS3300 + M75 as stand alone, BC6000 + BC600 and BT1100, LC1, LC2, Beo4, Beo5 and BL1000, BS2 and A8, EarSet2, Apron, Coffee mugs, Enamel Bagdes, Bath towel, Keyring, Books, Lots of miniature and the Bottle opener. Office: BC2300 + BL2500 and BS3. Summer house: BS Century.
Addicted? Oh no.... ;)

Trying to visualise - does the touch screen display the sources / actions you want to have, so no need to have to access something in LIST if you prefer? I'm thinking the display might be a bit like what the iPhone will be, so screen will change depending on what sources you own, and then will change again depending on the source you pick - so if you go into TV, channel up/down, text, P-in-P will appear, then if you go into CD you will get a display with say track up/down, FF/REW etc etc. We need more details!!

Yes it feels very robust and they test it the same as the Beo4 ie drop it on the floor and has passed those tests. It feels very comfortable, I had thought it would be an almost two handed operation but it sits comfortably in my hand and I can use it just with my thumb.
