Beogram CD 50 suitable for Beogram 550 system

I am looking for a Beogram CD 50  player suitable for Beogram 550 system (mine is not repairable) and do not know the system.  There was one recently advertised and I responded but have not received a reply.  When you reply to a advert do you have to bid.  As I am new will someone please advise.

Was this on ebay?? You can ask questions without bidding and if they are good sellers they should reply (it's in their own interest after all you may decide to win the auction).

Is your system a 5500 of a 5000? A CD50 or CD5500  will work with both (the CD6500 and CD7000 will also work but don't have the brushed aluminium finish of the other two). The CD5500 is reputed to be the best CD player (and has a digital out if thats of use) whereas the CD50 is meant to have an "analogue" type sound which some like or even prefer. I personally have never heard them side by side although Peter may give you a valid comparison.

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

I have both and they both work with a 5500 system. The 5500 is the one to get as it is in my experience quieter in operation. Both sound very good though, but I cannot tell CD players apart that well! I use the CD5500 out of preference.

When you say quieter, do you mean electrically (through the speakers) or mechanically i.e. mechanism noise?

I was lead to believe the CD5500 was the "cleaner", more "accurate" source - I knew the mechanism was more slick, quick etc but I had heard the sound was different - is this not the case?

I don't suppose you want to sell the CD50 player?
