Did the earth move for you last night???

Yes, we had an earthquake last night at 1.00 am (UK time) It measured 5.2 on the Reichter scale, the biggest for twentyfive years and scared me seriously.
Be interesting to know how far apart Beoworlders felt it.
I'm in Lancashire,north-west England and felt everything move for about 4 seconds. How about you?

Apparently the epicentre was in Lincolnshire somewhere. Only one person reported to be injured. Chimney fell on someone in Barnsley, Yorkshire.

Apparently it reached this far North but we  didn't feel it.

I felt it in Cambridge - I was doing some laundry at the time and funnily enough, as the washing machine started to spin so the house started to shake. I was on the phone to a friend at the time and she said that she had gelt it to so clearly it was not the washing machine.

IT was quite a surreal feeling. I knew it was a quake but also knew that it was unlikely to cause any real damage. However, it really did freak a few of my friends out.

We felt it around 1 am this morning.

I thought at the time "was that an earthquake?" then thought nah - we don't get them in YorkshireHuh? The epicentre was somewhere in Lincolnshire about 100 miles from us.

Couldn't fell it in Tokyo. Monthly event for me, sometimes twice a day.

I am really enjoying reading about people talking about what they were doing when it happen. In Japan, if you ask did you feel the earthquake, people normal reply with either what earthquake or which one.

I remember my first earthquake was a biggy on the 50th floor in Tokyo. Lets put it this way, I need some new pants after that.

Was it only to scare people, or were there any damages. I heard it in the news, but no details.

    1992
Was it on April 13 ?

That was the earthquake near Roermond (in the South of The Netherlands) , MW 5,4
I live 6 kilometers from Roermond and it was the strongest in Europe since 1756.
Quite a lot of damage, fortunately we live in a house where the walls are almost 1 meter thick.

The only thing that woke me up was the screaming of the other people in the house ! Smile

Some fairly minor property damage and a young 19 year old lad in Barnsley had the chimney stack fall onto him in bed & broke his pelvis.
