    BeoSound 3000 CD stops spinning

Hi, I just discovered these great BeoWorld forums while searching for a solution to a problem my BeoSound 3000 developed yesterday. B&O service says it will be a 3-week turn-around for repair, so I'm hoping there may be some simple fix.

The problem is that, when I load a CD and then press the CD button, the clamp comes down and it starts spinning -- all normal so far -- but then after a few seconds it stops spinning. The display says LOAD CD. The message is wrong, of course, because the CD is loaded.

Sometimes it does work. The CD keeps spinning and plays through to the end. But usually not. On one occasion, it played for about a minute and then stopped.

This unit has functioned perfectly since I purchased it 30 months ago. Ideas, anyone?

    Thanks,

    Peter

Suggest you start by cleaning the laser lens with a cotton bud damped in isopropanol.

Let us know if any change.

Thanks Graham, I just bought some isopropyl alcohol and I followed the instructions at http://forum.beoworld.org/forums/post/53250.aspx. No luck.

I'll take it in for a service today.

Well I took it into my local B&O store yesterday and the friendly salesman plugged it in and it misbehaved for him too. One thing that had escaped my notice is that, before it halted with the LOAD CD message, the CD was actually spinning backwards!

My BeoSound 3000 is back home after 3 weeks at the local B&O repair centre, and all is well.

They replaced the CD mechanism; I don't know what exactly. They say the part was about $150 (Australian), so the repair job cost a few hundred dollars all up.

It's a bit sad that such expensive equipment would break down after only 30 months, but I'm happy to have it back and it sounds great.
