Beolink PC2 crashes & B+O offer me no help at all!!

I am new here and not particularly technically up to speed, so please forgive me.

I have a beolink PC2 which was installed on my lap top. The lap top got a virus and I lost everything; the B+O shop re-installed the software on my desk top. I found that whilst the software worked, it scanned my hard disk every time and I lost all the playlists I had spent hours compiling every time I opened it - very frustrating. The B+O shop were mystified & sent a salesman each time who openly admitted he was not a computer specialist - he didn't seem that familiar with the settings and couldn't find any reason it lost the playlists. They installed upgaded software and that now doesn't work at all - it plays for 10 seconds and crashes. When I click on the B+O icon a dialogue box appears that says 'ACCESS violation at address 00402ED6 in module BEOIPCML.EXE.'

The shop that supplied everything is telling me that it is a fault in MY computer, that there is a conflict and they will recommend a computer specialist who will charge me £50 an hour to sort it out - very poor service. My feeling is that the fault is in the exe file and that is not my problem. I have a piece of expensive software that for whatever reason doesn't work and B+O should ensure it does. Can anyone help ? Who is at fault here?

    Surreyone,

Let me start by welcoming you to Beoworld and I am sure we can assist you in sorting your problem out.

Lets start by a few observations from your posting. You say you lost everything on your Laptop and the shop re-installed everything on your destop. So, your desktop is now connected to the PC2/Beoport box, correct ?

I am assuming from your statement that you have just purchased the PC2/Beoport or have you had it for sometime ?

The fact that you get an access violation in BEOIPCML.EXE tends to show some kind of problem when it first sent out signals onto the Masterlink.

What version of Beoport software did the dealer install ? Is it the one on the B&O site ?

Can you confirm that all other applications on your Desktop work correctly ?

    Regards Keith....

Not very impressive! The problem here is that B&O are supplying software but many of the installers are not computer experts. When I had a PC, I found most B&O software a bit temperamental and certainly quite fussy about its environment. I would be quite tempted to wipe everything and re-install. I would download the software from the B&O website - if you are a member (It is free) the link to the page is here.

Is the desk top of a similar spec to your laptop? Are you using Vista? If so, that is the problem. B&O software is still not able to work with Vista, only XP or 2000. The solution given by B&O is to downgrade to XP...... !!

Hi and thanks for helping ! They thought the problem might be the old beoport box and installed a new one last month and yes it is connected. Everything else on my desktop works fine.

Well, you now have a new Beoport, so that's good.

Assuming you are running Windows XP on your Desktop, I suggest you do as Peter has suggested and de-install the Beoport software, then reboot your PC and download and install version 4.65 from HERE

Then get back to us on the outcome..

By the way, when you download the software, you need to have the anti-virus switched off or it won't download.

    Hello again Keith

Apologies - I should have been clearer - the beoport was dealt with by the shop in the way suggested in the replies here at the time of installation by deinstalling and then installing direct from the site. I am running windows XP, not Vista. The shop seems as frustrated as me and they don't have the technical backup/support from B+O  U.K. to solve these issues. I am left in the middle.

Given the fact that the re-installation manoeuvre has already been done  - what now ?

    Hello Peter

Please see my reply to Keith today. If you can also bring brain to bear that might yield something...

How many times did they do this? Took me three goes with mine! I guess you have a software conflict somewhere. I suppose I would remove all the B&O software, use some software to clean up the system and try again. Have you tried using Windows Media?

Re: Beolink PC2 crashes & B+O offer me no help at all!!

Adding to Peter's remarks, one big problem with Windows applications of all types including the Beoport software is that the un-install programme rarely removes everything they should and almost never correctly removes the driver. You had previously stated that the BEOIPCML.EXE had an access violation which is going to be linked to the USB driver for the Beoport, so I propose the following set of instructions to hopefully resolve the problem:-

    1. Start by removing the Beoport/PC2 driver by pressing START then CONTROL PANEL, then double left click on SYSTEM then click the HARDWARE tab at the top of the opened screen. Now press DEVICE MANAGER. This is the list of your hardware. Click on the plus sign "+" to the left of "Universal Serial Bus Controllers" and look down the list for Beolink PC2, highlight it and right click on it. Now left click on UNINSTALL. If subsequently the wizard comes up saying "Found New Hardware" press cancel.
    2. Now go to the Control Panel again and double click on "Add or remove programs" and remove Beoport.
    3. When it has been removed, unplug the USB cable from the Beoport
    4. Now REBOOT your PC twice.
    5. Stop all un-necessary programmes including anti-virus and spyware detectors and SkyPE if you have it installed.
    6. Download the Beoport software again and install it plugging in the USB port when you are asked to do so. If it does not ask you to plug in the USB cable, then plug it in when the installation has completed, but it should ask.

If after you have done the above you still get the problem, then save the crash dump when Windows gives the error message so we can review in greater depth.

    Regards Keith....

Re: Beolink PC2 crashes & B+O offer me no help at all!!

most of the problems with vista came from the privileges a user has when he tries to use the software. Having the right permissions (run as administrator), disabling windows defender and configuring the firewall to permit traffic to and from the beomedia secure  the proper operation. We have been working with many B&O software tools over Vista (many versions) and we had no problems.
