    LX5500 Green

My LX has developed a green tinge over 20% of the screen area. No loudspeakers near enough to affect it and tube otherwise sharp. Is it finished?

    ITMA David!

The crt and metalwork can become magnetised, and effect the picture purity. The tv has an automatic demagnetising circuit that works when you switch on the tv.It's quite common for this circuit to fail, causing the symptoms you are seeing.

It's not the crt itself, but you need to get it sorted. Its quite simple, the bits n bobs cost less than a tenner, but you need an Engineer to do it.

    Nick

    Re: LX5500 Green

Nick, you are right, it could be a de-guassing issue if it is in an area of the tube, however if it is all around the tube, it may not be. Also a de-guassing issue tends give a more rainbow effect because it effects all three colours.

So, we need to ask if this "green" effect is all around the edge of the screen ?

    Re: LX5500 Green

The screen is now clear so perhaps the de-gauss circuit will be faulty. Interestingly the two LX5500's I have make completely different noises at startup - one a prolonged buzz like an old 3400SJ we used to own and the other (problematic one) comes on with a much shorter de-gauss followed by a series of high frequency noises which die away after around 30 seconds.

The green effect was to the left of the centre of the screen. There was no edge of screen distortion. I'm pleased to learn it is a cheap fix and will have an engineer on the case if it happens again.

    Many thanks,

    David

    David,

Given you last statement, then it clearly is a deguassing problem. The de-guassing circuit is very simple with a thermister and electronic switch (ST1) and one of these is the most likely cause of your problem. If you need to get a dealer to fix this in the future it will not be a big job.
