    Power surge

I have a Beocenter 9000 c.1987 in full working order and a recent power surge powered up the system and caused the cassette door to open and the cassette inserted began to play.

I subsequently installed a surge protector, and a more recent power surge caused the system to again power up, and this time the cd began playing!

Does anyone have any thoughts how to prevent this, apart from the obvious?!

Are there any other similar experiences?!

Any information at all welcome. Thanks. Gilleleje

    Re: Power surge

Buy an Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS). A short break in the supply can be enough to mess up the memory, but not enough to cause the processor to reset, hence the problem. Mark

I think you have a problem with the reset circuit in the Beocentre,it's designed to prevent this sort of thing happening. The microprocessor should "re-boot" in the same way as a pc after a power "outage".

There have also been some software upgrades over the years.

Thanks for the reply, a UPS for a piece of domestic equipment sounds a little excessive! Is there any way of getting the processor to reset?

    Thanks for your reply.

How do I obtain software upgrades and install them....or is this a dealer operation?!

I think you need help from a B&O Engineer.Curiously this help is'nt allways available via B&O Dealers! They tend to subcontract technical work,as it's seen as a "dead loss" compared to sales!

Post a request on this site, their may be a member who can recommend someone local to you.

    Regards,

    Nick

    Re: Power surge

Small UPS' can be bought for under £50. When I worked in a computing services department, we used to buy these to protect our systems, as we'd found them a lot more beneficial (protective) than the alternatives. We regarded it as money well spent, as a minute's downtime could cause us the loss of a week's work. If you need no more than 400W, then Maplin have one at £39.99:

I've also seen similarly priced units in shops such as Staples.

These cheap passive UPS devices can cause more problems than they are worth. To get a proper active device its very expensive.

Dont bother with this cheaper option

Hi and many thanks to all of you who have kindly replied to my question,

I think I need to talk to a B & O engineer in order to protect my 'investment'!

I live in East Grinstead, not far from Gatwick...would anyone like to personally recommend an engineer in this area in whom they have total confidence please?!

Kind regards to all of you

Hm, I always thought Gilleleje was a part of the Kingdom of Denmark?

    So...you are absolutely correct!

Gilleleje is not totally inappropriate for a name within the Beoworld site!

Scandinavian design/furniture, travel, culture and classical music have been a major interest of mine for the last 40 years.

Some years ago we discovered Gilleleje - a small coastal town near Helsingor which like so much of Denmark is very peaceful, and also has close proximity to Sweden for holiday day trips.

My daughter uses Trapholt as an access name for one of her sites. Try looking up that!!! (www.trapholt.dk)

    Kind regards etc.

Gilleleje is nice. We lived eight years in Helsingborg, so we´ve been many times on the danish countryside. Lovely!

    Hi Daniel

I shall look forward to driving through Helsingborg later in August, smelling the Zoegas aroma and hopefully purchasing at least onother 10 Kg of that wonderful Swedish coffee!

That aroma is wonderful! It gives you an instant demand for a black big cup of coffee! Coffee
