    Sad [:(] Beosystem 5000 /5500

Can anyone tell me please whether a Beosystem 5500 Beomaster and MCP would be compatible with my CD50, Beocord 5000 and Beogram 5000, as my Beomaster 5000 and MCP 5000 appear to have died, and per B&O Southampton's technician are not repaiarable because no parts available.

My understanding is that yes, they will work together. The CD50 was sold for a short time with the Beosystem 5500 as the CD 5500 wasn't quite ready for launch. In fact, you'll have some more options in terms of speakers and remotes if you go with the BM 5500. Someone will correct me I'm sure if I'm wrong though!

I would agree with john however, if there is no ulterior motive in replacing the BM5000 wiith the BM5500, you may find a replacement 5000 will be less expensive than the 5500 and I believe the 5000 has a better amp if you're using passive speakers (Peter may correct me hereBig Smile)

Generally speaking, you aren't learning much if your lips are moving.

I would ask Tim Jarman for an estimate on fixing the 5000 first. It is a better amplifier than the 5500 if truth be known - especially the pre-amplifier. The CD50 will work with the 5500 and ideed John is quite correct about it being supplied with the 5500 system. B&O late with a product release - who would believe it!

A BM5000 is not repairable? Why? There is really no problem to fix it... Only if you drop it out of the window, then it is not repairable.Devil

What's broken? Does it switch off?

Ähmmm, the preamp of BM5500 6500 and 7000 is identical. There was just the board and layout changed from BM5500 to the newer models 6500/7000. But the electronic parts are quite the same, there is no difference in the circuit. Only Powerlink was added... but that is a different expansion. It is possible to install a BM7000 preamp in a BM5500 and it would work.

I think Peter is saying that it is the BM5000 preamp that is different to the others (5500, 6500 & 7000)

Yes! I agree the 5500,6500 and 7000 are pretty much the same machine , give or take a RIAA and some Powerlink sockets. The 5000 is a different design and in my opinion rather nicer. If it only used Beolink 1000 codes! I imagine the 5500 was a fair bit cheaper to produce.
