    beosystem 5000 joy

    hi all,

thought about attaching this to other 5000 posts, but...

i thought it would be a chance to thank all the "nameless" folk on here that have offered me so much assistance w/ my varied equipment,
and to maybe have a little fun (quiz style) and, of course to post the resolution if anyone may be having similar issues...

quiz style: no prize, but kudos to the first poster w/ the answer (and i'll have a single malt to celebrate)...

tonight i decided to try and resolve an issue w/ a 5000 i have had for along time w/ the resources here w/o asking first. sure enough -about 15 minutes of forum searching and 2 minutes of work and -presto -no more issue!

i have many 'back burner" projects, and this had been one that came to the forefront tonight after receipt of my terminal 5000 (the smaller remote -not the mcp that came w/ the system).

long story short - i bought the system ~1.5 years ago (beomaster / beocord / beogram / mcp). sadly, the beocord suffered shipping damage (another story) but was functionally ok. after a while i sourced a cd50 and a replacement beocord. after hooking it all back up, the cd50 and the new beocord were perfect! -except the beocord would not react to the mcp! bummer!

flash fwd to tonight and my new terminal 5000 did not control it either -leading me to this project and its happy conclusion!

    so, quiz: what was wrong?

enjoy! and thx again to all beoworlders for this great site!

    hope that is sufficient -KUDOS!

yep! the (2) data pins were missing (apparently extracted by previous owner)

i guess the moral here is: never overlook the obvious!

Actually only one pin was missing since only one of the 2 pins are used. In Beograms that will be pin 6 and in Beocords, like yours, pin 7. All the system components have factory mounted both pins so if you are missing a pin, take a look at any other datalink product you have and grab an eventual unused pin from there.
